AstiA 11 #1 Posted May 28, 2013 Hi again guys, I am pretty new to TF2 and pretty new to PC gaming in general. While playing to get enough hours to apply to the lotus clan (i am at 26 as of right now) I feel like i am a horrible player, feeling as though i am weighing my team down. I know practice makes perfect, and i still haven't gotten completely used to using a mouse for gaming but i just can't shake the feeling that i am not getting any better. I know this is petty and has first world problem written all over it, i am just curious to know if any of you have ever felt like this?

+Skaila 5,462 #3 Posted May 28, 2013 Ah we all feel like this, i still feel like crap when i keep missing everyone as sniper Some days are better than others. Personally, for me? I'm glad if I get to kill Se7en at least once <3 Or just go pyro and burn them all? Always fun. Pretend to be a maniacal pyro... you know... normal pyro
Reisen 1,973 #4 Posted May 28, 2013 Dude, this is totally common. I used to be a Newbie, like everyone else who just started to try out a new game. I was playing Scout and spamming Pistol from Long Distance, I was hyped to get 1 kill after dying 5 times. The best I can suggest you is either stick to the class you like the most or play a less complicated class. Everyone has a purpose in the game, Pyro for pushing forward or even reversed, pushing back. Mainly using Flamethrower which doesn't require too much of a super aim helps, too (W+M1, Haters gonna hate) Engineer is very useful there, too. Primarily Focusing on letting your buildings do your job and when it comes down to them being destroyed either rebuilding them or trying to fight without them for a while (or until someone on your team helps you) Classes like Scout/Heavy/Sniper/Spy might be a bit hard due to them requiring aim, especially Scout, Sniper and Spy. You could also give Medic a go. Letting someone else do the aiming while you are overhealing/healing to give him an advantage against his enemies. There are enough classes that you can easily get used to, trust me. But yeah you noticed it right, you need to practice. You won't notice at once, but you will definitely improve by time.
Ghost_Jor 583 #5 Posted May 28, 2013 (edited) I'm at around 600 hours and I'm dominated by most people in Lotus within a few minuets. But TF2 is such a fun game once you get the hang of it, and being bad is to be expected. Don't get mad or give up because its not COD where you can just pick it up and do good, there are a lot of skilled players in the game in every server. Keep playing and eventually you'll be the one getting mad at the noobs running around. Also, make sure to have the basics down before you get going. Know that the pyro's flames don't have a snipers range, know that stabbing an engi next to a sentry will most likely get you killed if you don't sap it, know if a tactic went wrong you should try something different. Although teammates rage might be annoying, don't ignore your teammates either. If they tell you you can extinguish them as a pyro, do it. If you're and medic and they say über me, do it. You'll be playing with a lot of people better than you, so learning from them would be good until you can make these decisions yourself. That's all for my wall of text of wisdom. Seven said it best (and shorter), just try to have fun, being good will come along with it. Edited May 28, 2013 by Ghost_Jor

Possum 10,776 #7 Posted May 28, 2013 The important thing is that you're enjoying yourself. Mouse accuracy will come with practice, don't worry about that. If you're wanting to get better, then there are plenty of people here who would be more then willing to help you, whatever the class, don't be afraid to ask.
AstiA 11 #8 Posted May 29, 2013 Thanks for all the advice! To answer the question if i am having fun, Hell yeah i am! Its a great game with a great community base. I really haven't found my number one class yet, and i don't think ill ever have one. I think i am the best on Engineer, Pyro (BURN THEM ALL >), or Medic. Usually i switch to pyro after my Engineer setup is completely destroyed like 4 times so i can rage a bit. Feels good to set fire to the douche who blows up your sentry 3-4 times I feel better about myself now knowing im not the only one who feels a bit noobish when they are obliterated on a server.
Harlequin 2,975 #9 Posted May 29, 2013 go and get some coffee or tea, set up a camp fire, take your time and read this: Asjo's Pyro Guide Asjo's Medic Guide
Se7en 10,762 #10 Posted May 29, 2013 go and get some coffee or tea, set up a camp fire, take your time and read this: Asjo's Pyro Guide Asjo's Medic Guide If it's TL;DR I'll resume it for you. Playing pyro: kill all sons a' bitches. Playing medic: heal people that kill ridiculous amounts of sons a' bitches. P.S. happy to hear you have fun, that's the goal.
- Mike - 2,728 #11 Posted May 29, 2013 The biggest thing about playing a computer is finding a mouse sens that is comfortable and allows you to not over aim (too high) or under aim (too low). Take time learning what a class can and cannot do. And if you see someone playing a certain thing well you can always ask that person. The worst they will say is to tell you to bug off.

Harlequin 2,975 #13 Posted May 29, 2013 pffff... once a pyro, always a pyro. emotions guiding the gameplay... no wonder majority of pyros are crap. take soul reaper as example. he doesn't give a shit on emotions, he's cold blooded, he's a pyro monster. j/k ;-)

IceSage 58 #18 Posted June 4, 2013 My advice is to simply not try as hard and don't let things get to you. Sometimes it seems like you're not doing too well, especially if you die a lot for some reason. However, that's just part of the game. Unless you're one sneaky mofo or you tend to play this game every waking moment of your life... it's hard not to constantly get killed, especially in ridiculous ways. I stopped trying at this game and it's become a heck of a lot more fun of an experience. I mean, I still go for whatever the objectives are... Yet I just kind of sit back and enjoy myself. I play classes that I'm terrible at sometimes just to see how well I'll do, and when I do well, I feel more accomplished. It actually took me quite awhile to reach the point where I'm at now where I just destroy most of my opponents with ease. Players I used to get constantly owned by now feel like they're on my level, and vise versa. It used to be like, "Oh no, THAT player logged on! I'm screwed!" -- But now it's more like, "Oh, THAT player logged on! Finally some competition!"

There are tons of other pc games it also works with (Skyrim for instance) so it may be worth the purchase if you don't already have one.
