fever 9,884 #1 Posted January 20, 2015 Saw a vlog from Purge yesterday which was quite interesting. He said your MMR is calculated in the games you play before you are allowed to start playing ranked games (50 games apparently is the point from which you can start playing ranked). Then during the calibration period they check to see how hard you try to win your games (as some people don't try at all in unranked games) and to check the MMR is accurate. So if you lose a lot of of your calibration games then it makes no difference, it's all figured out in the games you played beforehand anyway. Purge apparently lost 8 of his calibration games and was given a 4700 MMR.

He was replying to someone on Twitch...pretty sure Valve don't work to that exact criteria I suppose they check to see what your performance is like in ranked and unranked and check for consistency...who knows. fever 9,884 #6 Posted January 20, 2015 If he lost all of his games and got 4700 something ain't right... Well...its just what he said. I read somewhere else that your MMR is based on your games played before the calibration games. It's stuff written on the internet so who knows....but Purge does have some sort of involvement with giving feedback to Valve on DotA so I'd be more inclined to believe him if he said it. edit:typo

You're right on both counts...level 13 and 50 games I think before you can play ranked...MMR is calculated from game 1 it would seem and is then double checked during your 10 calibration games edit:typo
