Admin abuse is well said. He is abusing an admin by making you waste your time.

  • Did you identify yourself as an admin?
  • Did you warn him of a ban if he didn't respond?
  • Did you kick first to get his attention, in case he has sound off, is deaf, has you muted from the past, or didn't notice the chat?
  • Did you unsilence him to make sure he was capable of responding (IE not votemuted)?
  • Did you check his chat logs to see if there was any indication of a real reason for the call?
  • Did you check the server chat logs to see if he was being harassed/unfairly votemuted/kicked?
  • Was the server full and not going to suffer if it lost population?
  • Was it a repeat offense?

These are things that should be taken into consideration before banning someone who interrupted 2 minutes of your day while you're volunteering to be interrupted.  At a minimum, you should be identifying yourself as admin, warning them of a ban if they don't respond, and making sure that they are capable of responding.  The caller can't be guilty of not cooperating with the admin if they can't communicate with them, don't know the admin is present, or don't know what the consequences of not responding are.  The rest are just good things to do to ensure whatever the problem was was fully resolved, but not 100% necessary.

I do agree with Sphagnum's points.

You did the right thing by asking if he needed an admin, but following up 2-3 additional times doesn't hurt either. Sometimes, certain individuals need that 2nd or 3rd reminder or alert before they realize they're being called upon.

Don't be afraid to utilize the 'private say'. Sometimes they might want that to be a private situation between admin and caller. Could be. If after those 2-4 patient reminders they do not respond, I would personally initiate a kick and provide a sufficient kick reason.

My intent behind this is to provide you with a future suggestion.  :)

Footnote: If you're unsure about an action, ask a friend (lots in Lotus).
