Finally Played Dod:s After A Year...

Recommended Posts

I forgot how much people camp. I also think there should be a sniper class limit, 0 preferably. Because being able to jump around and instantly zoom in and fire a round accurately after being shot in the chest with a .30-06 is bullshit.

Did the developers get their weapons info from TV?

Why can't I reload my M1 Garand without shooting all 8 rounds? Did the retards at Valve figure out what that thing on the left side of the receiver does? It's called the clip ejector. Never mind the fact that the rear aperture is way to big, although that's really annoying also.

And .30-06 and 7.92x57mm are almost identical in ballistics, so why aren't the M1, M1919A4, BAR, M1903A4, MG42, and K98k variants all equally lethal? Just because it's launched from a semi-auto doesn't mean it is weaker than a bolt action. Videogames always do this for "balance". Sorry, the M1 is a better rifle than the K98k. I once saw on a Call of Duty 1 forum some retards saying they would rather use a K98k in real life because it is "more powerful" than an M1. Yes, people are actually this stupid.

And 9mm FMJ sucks compared to .45 Automatic FMJ, it is not even close. And putting a scope on a rifle doesn't make it more powerful than a rifle that is automatic. Unless it is DOD.

Sniper and a MG limit might help but may also kill the server. As for the insta zoom thing, marco's im sure of it, I mean everytime I run up on a sniper he uses his pistol like a SMG. The game was never meant to be like COD or even realistic, but I do hear that 1.6 DOD is better. Roll on COD:WaW and see if that changes the mold, however I doubt it. Every game in WW2 setting seems to think you cannot reload or place single rounds into the Garand. I don't think DOD should be taken to seriously, and yes camping happens alot due to fixed MG's.

When it comes down to guns, power doesn't matter to much in RL, since if the bullet hits you it is always going to do damage (depending where the bullet goes). There is a mod out for HL2 which is a good realistic mod called Resistance and Liberation. Its in the alpha stages but shows some promise with more realistic play such as shots and reloading. ATM they only have rifles and SMG's but they plan to add more content and more maps. Another game to look at is Red Orchestra, this game was made on the UT engine. It lacks gfx but its the most realistic game you will find in the WW2 setting. Modern combat there this ArmA with ArmA:2 and OFP2 coming out. Realistic combat simulators are a niche area really, most games companies favor the arcade game style.

yeah... i played red orchestra for the first time this past week... its pretty neat... but its takes a while to get used to their maps and set up... in the beginning u pretty much die a lot, since you are not used to all that is going on around you... it seems pretty realistic though...

If I want an unrealistic game I will play TF2. But DOD at least tries to appear realistic, enough that morons think it is an accurate representation of firearms. Although nothing is as bad as pulling the forward assist to load the M4 in CS...

Weapons are mirrored in CS, makes them all very realistic... not.

Operation Flashpoint 2 is a game I'm waiting on, Codemasters will prob make a combat simulator that will be picked up by many armed services. The level of realism and detail seems to be extremely high. However your right KillerKeg, people seem to think the games are real to life. They seem to forget that most games are made Arcade style which is quite far away from realistic. If you haven't try and pick up Red Orchestra, there are two mods which change the game which always makes the games appeal last. The thing I find with combat sim's and realistic mods is that the CS Kiddies seem to keep away from them. The games require more skill and a lot more intelligence, simple tactics as running an gunning don't really work. Realistic games require a good amount of teamwork, Project Reality is a classic example of this.

yeah its true... red orchestra actually requires you to think before running... hehehe... but the problem still is the level of dedication of your team also... i have played quite a few times, and its hard to find a group that actually gets organized... i have had a couple, and that is when it is most fun... so actually having a clan or something like that would be very nice for a game like that... considering that you could hand out tasks and all...

The weapons were modeled to be left handed originally. They added the option to make them right handed in later versions but since they are lazy they just mirrored them. Stag Arms does make left handed AR-15s, though.

Yes I know that. Hence "mirrored".
