Cryolite 0 #6 Posted April 23, 2009 Honker isn't me. I think the complaint was that I was making a lot of unscoped sniper rifle shots. Valve added custom crosshair support in the February 2nd TF2 patch. Because of this patch it became possible to change the size, color, and shape of your crosshair for all classes, and if you wanted to you could even download or make your own heart-shaped crosshair or skull and bones crosshair or whatever. A byproduct of this is that if you use a custom crosshair, it gives the sniper an unscoped sniper rifle crosshair where before he had none (at least as long as you didn't use a dry-erase marker on your monitor to mark the spot or something like that). However, custom crosshairs are disabled by default so unless you go poking around in the options you won't have a crosshair with the unscoped sniper rifle. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like on my end, minus the jpeg artifacts. If you can aim at all, hitting things with the unscoped sniper rifle is not difficult with a crosshair. I don't think everybody knows about this feature since it's disabled by default and I can imagine it would seem weird to see people playing like they have a crosshair when there's obviously none. Taking this into account I don't think the demo is anything special. There are some nice scoped headshots in there but I think I missed more than I hit, and keep in mind the teams were pretty stacked anyway since blue could only cap A, so we didn't encounter much resistance and everybody was probably doing better than usual.
