Newbs Guide To Working Out

I think YouSuck should include a few more pictures of himself in bike shorts because this thread isn't quite gay enough.

Assumptions > You

Criticism and reception

Richard Posner, a professor at the University of Chicago and a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, argues that Gladwell in Blink fails to follow his own recommendations regarding thin-slicing, and makes a variety of unsupported assumptions and mistakes in his characterizations of the evidence for his thesis.[3]

The metaphor "a blink of the eye" for intuition is not original to Malcolm Gladwell. Lois Isenman divided intuition into two parts, rapid thought-like unconscious cognition (what Gladwell calls "thinking without thinking") and intuition proper, in an 1997 article. She characterized them both with the metaphor "a blink of the eye," which came to her in an unusual experience (page 4). The publisher refused Isenman's request to cite her article in the paperback version of Blink. [4]

Joshua Correll, a University of Chicago professor renowned for his research on racial bias, stereotyping, and prejudice,[5] taught a class on Blink (Course Number: PSYC 24500). The course description read as follows:

"This small seminar is a reading and discussion of Malcolm Gladwell’s 2005 book Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking, which addresses a variety of psychological topics (e.g., impression formation, close relationships, racial bias). Each week we compare sections of this book to the experimental literature on which they draw, critically considering Psychology (sscd) 475 these diverse areas of academic research and issues involved in communicating such work to the general public." [6]

"You can't judge a book by its cover. But Gladwell had me at hello — and kept me hooked to the final page." Jennifer Reese, Entertainment Weekly

"The book features the fascinating case studies, skilled interweavings of psychological experiments and explanations and unexpected connections among disparate phenomenon that are Gladwell's impressive trademark." Howard Gardner, The Washington Post

"If you want to trust my snap judgment, buy this book: you'll be delighted. If you want to trust my more reflective second judgment, buy it: you'll be delighted but frustrated, troubled and left wanting more." David Brooks, New York Times Sunday Book Review

"Mr. Gladwell is a gifted storyteller, able to find memorable characters and delightful anecdotes wherever he goes. But for much of the book, he struggles to figure out what he really wants to say." George Anders, Wall Street Journal

"Smart, provocative but slippery... Too much of "Blink" reads like a longish string of features from the New Yorker." David Kipen, San Francisco Chronicle

"As a researcher, Gladwell doesn't break much new ground. But he's talented at popularizing others' research. He's a clever storyteller who synthesizes and translates the work of psychologists, market researchers and criminologists." Bob Minzesheime, USA Today

And you do hack.

** I'm gonna be upfront about this because it's a sore spot on my record. I do have a VAC banning on record for regular CS. About 4 years ago, after I stopped playing CS, I stopped using my steam account. My friends still played so I let some of them use it. They hacked, and it got banned and they never bought me a new account. This is story seems convenient, but there isn't much I can do to prove to you that I wasn't the one who hacked on my account other than give my word and promise I didn't do it. Get to know me and you'll know I take my promises very serious. I'd buy a new account, but I'd like to keep the stats I have on this one. Please let me know if this is going to be a problem

Oh, full-on homo. Didn't you know? I swing both ways, big guy. ;-)

EDIT;

What're some decent exercises I could do with a pair of dumbells, a curl bar and a lot of extra weight? (To stack on, not on my body ;P)

Would I hinder myself because I have so little selection of tools work with?

This is too gay for serious response. Here

Try lifting them in the air in various manners as to use each muscle group in your body.

Hey yousuck

Is it possible to gain mass on the legs with cycling and a high protein diet only?

Weight gain is dependent more on your total calorie intake. I don't know why you want big legs and chicken arms. Most people do cycling because they like it, not because t-rex arms is attractive. I cycled back in college because I couldn't afford a car. You certainly will get big quads though. Tiny hamstrings however.

Should have specified. I am looking to add lean muscle mass to my legs. I have a larger upper body and skinny, but strong legs hence the need for mass. I bike 10 miles to the gym in the early am and 10 back home. Its damn near impossible to do a heavy squat day when I need to bike home. So I was thinking that I hit each upper body muscle group during the week and keep up with my 20mile biking for the lower. <That in combination with a high calorie/protien diet should yield larger and stronger legs amiright?

become oriental and work out in a hotel ballroom? That's not gonna happen.

Does one need to use advanced weight training techniques to gain lean mass or will the bike do?

Squatting is not advanced. Its the basics that even 14 year olds who play football do. Biking will not add you mass. Its an endurance exercise. Have you see any huge marathon runners?

Newbs are always funny. Rather than doing the well established basics, they want to do it in their own weird delusional way.

FYI, this is Alberto Contador, winner of 2009 tour de france. He kicked Lance Armstrong's butt by 5 minutes. He is undoubtedly one of the best riders in the world. Have fun aspiring to look like him.

I wish I could stoop as low as to post a pic of me in my prime. I played football in high school(back 2 back state titles) and 3 years in college(1 division title). I have spent more time in the gym than you. But, I do not have as much experience in cycling as you do that's why I am asking.

Pics or it didn't happen. You claim division title yet you call squat an advanced exercise. Hey, you can't blame me for calling you bs. Thats like saying you are an Olympic weighlifting gold medalist but you don't know how to snatch.

As far as bike experience, where is there to know? Buy a bike and get on it. Do it for fun, do it for cardio, do it for transportation. But do it for big legs? -_-

How do you know thats all he did? You don't know his workout. He could very well be doing squats since he is a sprinter.

Yes you are right. I have no idea about the w/o routine of the faceless quadzilla pic that I posted.

I tore my knee twice so squatting anything over 225 would be silly on my part. I am looking for low impact ways of gaining leg muscle.

Way to NOT mention this at the start. The real question is, are you prepared to wear spandex?
