Weird Problem With Lotus Servers

Recommended Posts

I'm a frequent visitor to this clan's servers. Yesterday for some reason any server I joined, I would lag pretty bad. I was playing a Soldier and whenever I shot my rockets they would skip threw the air and people around me would skip. Like typical lag except my ping and my fps were fine (20ping, 60fps). I asked others if they were lagging and no one else seemed to be having problems. If I went on any other servers other then lotus's I could play just fine. Does anyone know why this would happen all of a sudden?

tl;dr

why would a group of servers out of no where start giving my lag with perfect ping and fps?

60 FPS is lag for me. I average about 30-37 FPS.

Edit: Wow, I totally got ping and FPS mixed up.

That's odd... well, if nobody else was experiencing any lag, it was a problem on your end. Are you using wireless? Restart the router, and make sure nobody else is eating up all the bandwidth. If you're connected into the wall and this continues, contact your ISP.

oddly enough after trying for the past couple days. it seems to be working fine now but it wasn't an hour ago? I don't get it. anyhow I'm just happy to be able to play again. thanks for your input. hopefully everything stays going good for me. Definitely buying a new router, whether or not it had something to do with this...

by the way is there anyway to open ports of TF2?

wait what.... higher is better.

That's odd, as when my FPS goes up, I lag.

No I'm not talking about ping.

FPS, in this instance, stands for "frames per second". For example, if you look at a game running at 10 FPS, it's like a slideshow, as you can very clearly tell the individual frames. While most people can't tell the difference between 60 and 80 FPS, most people could definitely tell the difference between 30 and 60-- it doesn't run as smoothly as it should.

Now I'm pretty damn confused.

30 FPS is nice and smooth for me.

The eye can register as low as 25 or FPS before noticing "skips." That's why animation looks like it's moving. So seeing 30 FPS as smooth doesn't sound too wack to me. Now if you said that 16 FPS looked smooth to you then you should probably get your eyes checked, but 30 is okay, 60 is better and 100 is just outrageous.

I actually experienced this the other day on a different server, don't know if it is the same solution but mine was due to a virus scan starting in the background. Do you have an automatic scan set up with your virus scanner at all?

Bump. OW! That one hurt. Yes, after a while the server starts lagging. Not sure about the technical reasons why, ask Mana for those, but it happens. Change servers or pester Mana to reset it.

The servers start to lag because Gabe has some really shitty netcode.

I don't think it's the netcode that is leaking CPU/RAM.

Either way after a certain amount of uptime (say 3000-4000 minutes) the servers start lagging. I'll be adding back auto restarting for them soon.

I bet you any amount of money that if you just restarted your computer the problem would be solved.

Btw, are you using firefox, im almost sure one of the newer versions has memory leak problems on some machines, including mine.

But how would this effect TF2? Maybe if you had it open while you were playing? I know some other servers auto-restart after a while, so I think that would solve most of the problems of lag.

whenever i let firefox run in the background it continuously eats up my memory.

Right now it's using 185MB, if I let it run while I play TF2 it can get up to around 500MB.. Well that's as far as I've seen it go.

Yeah, Firefox rapes memory like that.
