I can't bash Mac gaming too much, as the first game I played on a computer was UT2004 on a Macintosh.

Negativo. Wine may work for WoW..or Star Wars..or some other RPG. But that's a big negative on using WINE for playing source games. Already been tried on my hardware 'n there's too much glitchy action for anything to be worthwhile.

The OSX versions of Steam games will be worth a try on Linux though, both Linux and OSX are based off of UNIX

It should work on Linux because they're both Unix-based, but it doesn't mean it does.
