Mike808 1 #1 Posted July 12, 2010 Well my headset broke a few months ago, but I didn't mind cause i was too busy for games anyways. But now that im playing often again I want some new ones. This site gave good suggestions http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/peripherals/2010/01/03/the-best-gaming-headset/3 what do you guys recommend? Budget: around $150 tops
Josh 18 #2 Posted July 12, 2010 $150 for a headset is a bit much, I have the "Logitech G330 Gaming Headset", it goes for $60 and I haven't had any real problems with it, It has got it's price long overused. Think of how much a something of $1 gets you, I've used this headset for well over 2000 hours of talk time and it still works great.
Krash 1,040 #3 Posted July 12, 2010 Thats the headset i have, the Carcharias. Its really nice, audio control, mic on and off switch, its light, and its extremely adjustable. My only problem is that the mic is a little bit quiet. But a boost in the Windows control panel fixes that. Overall its tough, i drop it all the time, the sound is GREAT, and its pretty inexpensive. You suck and have no life 203 #4 Posted July 12, 2010 1. Use the Lotus search thread. (A lengthy thread has already been posted) 2. Use Google, Amazon.com review, Newegg Review If you want data, why not pool from a much greater body of data set? Why would you ask a forum with like 20 people reviewing instead of other sites with thousands of reviews? Too lazy to search? Want other people to post when you can find it yourself? $150 for a headset is a bit much, I have the "Logitech G330 Gaming Headset", it goes for $60 and I haven't had any real problems with it, It has got it's price long overused. Spend less time watching demos and banning people and get a job. 150$ isn't a lot. 2. Logitech known for good headphones? Lawls. Try Sennheiser and AKG

Didn't take a chemical engineer to figure that one out. i usually don't trust their reviews because like 100 retards could say a shit headset is the best when it actually sucks. forums are much more creditable in my opinion. How would Newegg's review be any more or less credible than any other forum? You think Lotus forums are filled with audiophile / audio engineers? At least with sheer numbers, you have more confidence on the distribution of review ratings. You go on lotus forum, everyone pretty much pitch in on the single item that they have. So you get maybe 2-4 products with 1 review each. Do you think Josh bought 10 headphones and sat down with the pros and cons? I dont think so.
Josh 18 #8 Posted July 12, 2010 I've had enough headphones in the past to say i'm happy with my current ones thank you, and I don't like my job but i'm still making money. Also, You're not banned on the forums since Mana unbanned you for some reason.
You suck and have no life 203 #9 Posted July 12, 2010 Thats because me and mana are homies. Also, without me, this forum would be dead and devoid of common sense and real advice. Despite my brutally honest threads, they are all legit and spot on.

You suck and have no life 203 #11 Posted July 13, 2010 How much is too much is determined by: 1. how much money you make 2. what you value in life The post creator doesn't need a lesson on money management (thats a separate thread altogether). It simply said for 150$, whats the best headset you can get. You think 150 is a lot? 1400$ 1350$

You suck and have no life 203 #13 Posted July 13, 2010 Cost vs Benefit is never a linear curve. It always diminishing returns as the cost goes up. Thats how it is for everything in life. You pay a lot more for a little bit more quality. A 50$ steak dinner costs 200x more than a packet of instant noodles. Both gets you full. Again, it depends on what you value, and how much money you make. If you pick pure value, then nothing will beat a 99 cent headphone made in China. Going from absolutely no sound to all of a sudden sound, thats literally a value of infinity. Nothing will beat a 1 dollar headphones in terms of value. Btw, the cost of a quickie is a lot less than 1400. Based on the book Superfreakonomics. The average quickie is about 81$
Josh 18 #14 Posted July 13, 2010 Your ears can only hear so much, just as running a game and having it "show" 300 frames per second is pointless when most eyes can barely see 200 if they're lucky. Yes you can get bass and surround sound in those little ear pieces but someone wearing headphones a little more clunky or ugly will be able to hear just as well. Its something closer to 40-60 probably lower where its unnoticeable but your point is met paying more then 100$ is like buying a mac or an Alienware computer. you'll feel great after buying it but then you realize it wasn't worth it. actually i trust this forum more for suggestions and then i look up the reviews on sites like cnet. Yeah I get that. You at least have a better grasp of who the people are on this site being its such a small community, and can actually talk to them in game.

Josh, I don't think people can see at 200 frames per second, i think it's something around 24 The Human eye can see at extreme 200 frames per second as I said already, I believe the highest recorded is near 300. Most people won't be able to tell the difference between 30 frames and 60 on the most part which is why quality over value is a factor in this. Unless you get cat/dog ear implants, I don't expect you to make the most out of expensive headphones. http://whisper.ausgamers.com/wiki/index.php/How_many_FPS_human_eye_can_see (Oh god, I'm using "You Suck's" link) Yes this is the internet, this can be bullshit but I can tell the difference between 60 frames and 30 frames. Mana 3,867 #22 Posted July 13, 2010 Josh, I don't think people can see at 200 frames per second, i think it's something around 24 ... Guess you have never seen a movie in native 24hz (bluray usually). TV shows are usually 60hz. Though almost all TV show rips that you can download are running at 24fps. So try watching a downloaded movie in true 24 fps mode. You will need to set the refresh rate to 24hz on the monitor, so there's no interpolation going on by the media player as it 'upscales' the video to 60fps and you will sure as hell see a difference. It feels lagtastic, that's why most TV's these days have a film mode which interpolates the frames to bring it up to the panel's Hz. Though running a 24hz movie at 60/120hz makes it feel like its shot with a handheld... Hell, you don't even need to download a movie to test this, just set your refresh rate to 24hz and your mouse should feel laggy on the desktop. Then go try playing TF2. I actually got used to 24 fps now on my HDTV, with no frame interpolation going on (24->60) the quality is better, at the expense of jerky movement... You suck and have no life 203 #23 Posted July 13, 2010 You can make movies look smoother at a lower FPS by blurring each image. It somewhat compensates the low frames. However, if each frame was a crystal clear crisp still image, then definitely 24 fps will look choppy. I think between 30 to 60 even for video games you can still notice a difference. I certainly can. When I play the latest and greatest FPS games, I typically notice it when the FPS drops below 50. Typically I confirm this by turning on FRAPS and I am usually correct. Also, going back to the original question. You can definitely hear the difference between a 50$ headphone and a 200$ headphone. However, the difference between a 200$ dollar headphone and a 400$ headphone, I would say the average person would not be able to tell in a blind test. You suck and have no life 203 #25 Posted July 14, 2010 You feel stupid for buying Alienware because it means you are too stupid to build your own computer with the exact same components for half the price.
