Tappy 8 #1 Posted April 19, 2011 Few hours ago Valve released Portal 2 after the GLaDOS@Home project has completed. Those who got all 36 Potatoes got: Valve Complete Pack, and Portal 2... For FREE. That fairly frustrates me, seeing I preordered Portal 2 and owned 85% of the Valve Pack already. I got 36 potatoes, what did I get? All the Counter Strike games (not including "Counter-Strike" I already had that), Half Life Source, Half Life Deathmatch Source. Potato Sack: $38.72 <- People who just bought this got up to $150 free games, not including the indie games in the sack for discount price. Preorder Portal 2: $44.99 Pre-order Portal 2 + Potato Sack = $83.71 <- People who bought this combo got up to $100 in free games, not including the discounted indie games in the sack. I feel as though I've been cheated, and no I didn't get gift codes for any of the extra games given to me. Otherwise, anyone else get Portal 2 and/or all 36 Potatoes? Update: Turns out we can gift our extra copies of Half Life 2 and Half Life 2: Episode 1 Update 2: People who preordered Portal 2 and got all 36 potatoes can now gift any extra games from the Complete Valve Pack including their Extra Copy of Portal 2. KillerKeg 10 #2 Posted April 20, 2011 I didn't do the potato sack bs. I already have all the valve games, anyway, so it doesn't look like I missed out on much. I did play a few rounds of Audiosurf but I have had that game for a while. As far as Portal 2, it was a decent game and co-op is definitely fun. However certain parts of the gameplay feel consolized. Crouch jump seems fucked up and you can't just pick up all the shit lying around like keyboards and mice like you could in Portal. Also all the railings are just high enough that you can't jump on them with the messed up crouch jump. This drives me crazy since I always jump on all that crap. Oh, and introducing FUCKING UN-IMERSIVE ANIMATED LOADING SCREENS TO THE HALFLIFE UNIVERSE.

Oh, and introducing FUCKING UN-IMERSIVE ANIMATED LOADING SCREENS TO THE HALFLIFE UNIVERSE. Ya I loved being able to pick up /anything/ that was loose. I also felt like there was an extreme lack of areas to actually place portals but I guess that's how the game should be? Annoyed by the loading screens but usually takes a couple of seconds (I have Portal 2 on a SSD) Loved how it wasn't just doing test chambers, you got to go to the older portion of Aperture Labs and listen to some of the history. I've never seen Aperture Science Labs to be so massive until playing through Portal 2. Kinda was disappointed that some of the test chambers demoed in the Valve videos never actually made it into the game or levels similar. There were also none of the vacuum tubes and hardly any smashers, although not really announced to be in the game it would have been nice to see them. I might think of a way for lotus people to do some sort of a contest for my extra copy of Portal 2 but not sure yet what I want to do with it... Oh, and introducing FUCKING UN-IMERSIVE ANIMATED LOADING SCREENS TO THE HALFLIFE UNIVERSE. Yeah, weird they took out crouch jump, but the way the levels and puzzles were designed didn't really have an option to use even if we did. Maybe they'll fix it up when they release the mod tools since a lot of the Portal 1 mods required crouch jump for their puzzles. I was sad when I couldn't pick up and throw chairs. I have a feeling they were toned down to make room for the set-piece massive physics effects though (the facility falling apart in general). Perhaps it was too taxing to have to calculate the little things, though its just a guess. Or they might have not let you so you don't get confused/distracted from the right solution to the puzzle. I remember in portal 1 there was this one part where you had to break the glass on the tube with a rocket so you could get use the cubes it was transporting to get into a high vent. Due to my stupidity, I used one of the chairs instead and it took a long time since the chair kept falling over when I jumped on top of it.

Gotcha 6,307 #7 Posted May 4, 2011 (edited) It's obvious that VALV€ used the P2 hype to get people buy the sack, which are games they wouldn't have bought otherwise. Took me 3 hours to beat, glad I didn't buy it. Edited May 4, 2011 by Gotcha
Tappy 8 #8 Posted May 5, 2011 I think P2 was worth buying. Hopefully future DLC will make it even better. They used P2 as hype to buy the sack but also allowed those people who bought the sack and spent time to get the potatoes to get P2 for free and the Valve Complete pack for free. Shyman 0 #9 Posted May 5, 2011 It was a great game in my opinion. The puzzles were very challenging and fun to figure out.. The co op for me, had to be better then the single player.
DeltaViper 22 #10 Posted May 7, 2011 The co-op was an interesting take, I liked that addition... HOWEVER, the ending to the single player campaign was the best ending ive seen in a game in a long LONG time And yea, Krash, I'm gonna be home for the summer later today, so lemme know when you wanna hit up Coop (I can get an achievement for doing teh calibration with someone who hasnt played it yet)
