London is GMT 00:00 and Hong Kong is GMT + 08:00. The time difference is 8 hours, so when it's 6 PM in London it's 2 AM in Hong Kong.

That's in the middle of the night for your friend, so you arrange to meet him at 1 PM instead. This means it's 9 PM in Hong Kong.
