It's explosive and have you try doing a 1 on 1 battle between Ronin and Samurai? the damage can deal a very great for those units who have it's weakness. Like Grayback, he has a waekness of explosive.

Samurai and Ronin are evenly matched with no upgrades and no battle gears, but the advantage of a samurai that he has his "seppouku" it means that when the samurai dies it damages all nearby enemies. A samurai and berserker match, unanimously the berserker wins if there will be a shale armour if there's none it's a tie with the samurai. But if all the 3rd tier units have upgrades no battle gears only mano a mano fight I go with the Samurai, if have upgrades and battle gears I go to berserker my strongest 3rd tier unit.

Seppouku is both magic and explosive, and it is very effective against it's weaknesses.
