Update Perks

Just a shot in the blank, has anyone experienced any unusual changes or being forced to change their strategy, load-outs, tactics after the 27th update?

A lot of people have been complaining about the weapons either doing more, or doing less damage, or you're more vulnerable than before, I find this to be false but I've noticed lately I'm DYING more often than I should be...

Class-specific Weapons, any thoughts on it? I for one, am P.O.ed at Valve for royally fucking the Equalizer, I don't want the stupid Escape Plan *The piece of shit did not convert into a strange one correctly*, nor do I want the Equalizer now as the chances you'll hit something plummeted now that you can be shot to death with a pistol.

Degreaser did not need a nerfing.

Tomislav..eh, maybe.

The base damage of all flamethrowers was increased 10%, and then the degreaser was given a damage penalty of -10% and the backburner's 10% damage bonus was removed. The net damage of both is unchanged, but the damage margin compared to the default flamethrower is decreased, so ultimately the default flamethrower and phlog got buffed. However, the phlogistinator was also nerfed - the 90% damage invulnerability during taunt was reduced to 75%, making it completely useless at this point since the invulnerability for delaying a capture was its only benefit. Now it's basically a flamethrower with no airblast, no random crits, no damage bonus, with a few seconds of crits only if you can find a place to hide while taunting.

Well, one thing I can say I really liked, besides some new weapons...is that I was proven correct over each and every one of you sorry sacks of maggots.

Spag, I feel weird playing Pyro now, I've never used the Flamethrower before but I'm starting to feel I'm being pushed towards it if I want to live longer than 30 seconds. I purposely use the Degreaser to spam instead of opting to use a Flare or a melee, mainly because how the fuck is that weapon going to NOT kill people? It's a RAGE-inducing one, yet they buff the Regular and Backburner? Assholes. -_-

From what I can tell, they only buffed the default flamethrower. Backburner still does the same damage it did before. Flamethrowers are the easiest weapons to damage things with since you don't have to aim well to catch things on fire, but for me it's probably the hardest to actually kill things with - I can get kills a lot more easily as a demo or soldier or combat engy (or scout if I'm not on my laggy laptop) - since they're the shortest ranged primary weapons in the game. When playing pyro, I find it easiest to get kills with the reserve shooter since it's the only weapon that both does a decent amount of damage and can do it from the same distance as any other class's weapon. Unless I'm playing against the most horrible team ever (one with no medics, no dispensers, no airblasting pyros, bad scouts who come too close, and nobody thinks to grab a health pack or jump in water to put themselves out), very few of my kills come from the degreaser actually burning anything to death. I get more deflection kills than flamethrower kills. On payload maps it's even more rare for me to kill anything by burning it to death. Not sure what class you normally play, but I don't find it easier to survive or get kills using the game's shortest ranged primary weapon, although I do face the world's most horrible team a lot on the 24/7 servers. If it wasn't for the fact that the whole image of the pyro character just has a strangely attractive allure for me, I'd probably never play it at all. Pyro's just a sexy creature.

Also, my 3-foot balloonicorn should be arriving in the mail soon. Can't wait!

you can have my strange escape plan / equalizer if you want, I am all set with the vintage one.

the most time it feels like they fire resistance of spy has been reduced, even there was no one.. so I have a feeling right now spys get bonus dmg when they are on fire :-(

But I know its just my fault, being a crippled movement god. I just feel I die more to pyros now then I was used to.

nevertheless my K/D is much higher now as previously, so maybe I am just more sensitive about dieing wink.png

Just brutal.... I barely played for almost 2 weeks cos of this...

There's 0 strategy or thought with it now... you can use it for almost nothing except long hauls after a spawn...

The plus side is it has forced me out of my comfort zone into some new classes, which is always a good thing :)

Yeah I hate sandvich not being able to heal the heavy, or GRU nerf.

And the fact they kept pomson as it is :@ - Can't they give medic uberguns 125% uber (no extra uber duration though) and dead ringer able to feign at 75% cloak? That way pomson doesn't just KILL that entirely, especially when it's a gun that has UNLIMITED ammo.... pfft stupid valve. I hope this wasn't you too se7en ;)

They should fix that exploit/bug where somebody can use a splendid screen, do shield bash damage and land a crit at the same time :(

Equilizer WAS OP. If 90% of a class have to use 1 weapon, that should be your first clue!

Degresaser is still OP with puff and sting, but at least people have a reason to use the stock flamethrower now.

Having the most health in the game and being able to get insteal heals (dropping the sandvich) was also OP.

You'll notice they've made all these changes to the heavy and they still dominate more than most other classes (on PL maps anyway).

No game will ever be perfect but complaining that our OP (yes I said our because I play all classes but scout most days), weapons being "nerfed" is just silly.
