+Cactus 4,948 #26 Posted August 6, 2012 Not necessarily correct. When I do Pyroland all that is different for me are the explosion and fire models. The map is still the same. Some maps don't have Pyroland textures, so wearing the goggles in them only cause the particle effects and voices to change. Dustbowl, from the second screenshot he posted, does have a Pyroland texture set, so were he wearing the goggles, the map would look different.
Asjo 90 #27 Posted August 20, 2012 I keep trying to put out people wearing that hat. Wastes my ammo as pyro
Mana 3,867 #28 Posted August 20, 2012 That's not a real effect per se. I don't believe there's any hat using it. Rather it's a test effect that Valve added first and it has since been replaced by another (and less confusing) fire effect. I actually meant to remove it a while back but left it in because it tends to completely envelop cosmetic items like shoes or sniper shields. As it is not an effect used by any hat, it will be removed soon. Unless someone knows of a hat that uses this effect? I used to be happy while wearing my pile of tires but then valve broke/blocked the custom hats. There's a chance of getting custom hats back on some servers. Valve just needs to approve the ip first. I'll have to come up with a list of servers that will have custom hats, probably the most popular ones.
Chez-Box 3,240 #29 Posted August 20, 2012 I dunno why people have to be so douche, its a cosmetic effect, and its making the game shitty for you, if you ask him to remove it, i don't knwo why that's such an imposition, hate people like this
JMaster299 654 #30 Posted August 21, 2012 Well Mana said it will likely be removed shortly so it shouldn't be an issue any more. Asking them politely to change it is fine but don't get all butt hurt when they don't. They are not breaking a rule or exploiting and there is some obvious user side issue that is causing the problem as it only affects some people and not others. It could be a driver issue, corrupted files, or a number of other random things but the fact remains it is a client side issue. As such it's that person's problem. If it was an actual issue with the game it would affect everyone, but it doesn't.
Wampa Stompa 40 #31 Posted August 23, 2012 What directx version are you running? GTX 560? It's got to be something other than your video card. I use 550Ti with 8GiB of ram and everything is fine. Don't think I've ever seen that effect either. You have 8 gibibytes of RAM? I guess you must have ordered a couple of those 4.194304 GB memory sticks. I hate your fire effect. Not because it makes me lag (GTX 670 barely sweats with TF2), but because I can never tell if you are actually.on fire, or if its the damn hat. As a medic, its SO ANNOYING. lol, I've had this problem too. but on the other hand, a lot of people with the donator effects play spy and don't realize it stays with them while they're disguised.

I'm just thankful that the other team usually hasn't figured this out. That being said it does make playing spy that much harder.
Hawkear 97 #33 Posted August 23, 2012 this is bad for the server, I think that obviously since this is not a pyro land only effect and it obviously impedes accuracy by a lot as well as lagging people and I know it would with that sparkle always on, now come on guys just tell that guy to stop or stop him because that is a very unfair advantage.
