Hat Effect Makes The Game Unplayable

A user called PS insists on using a hat effect that slows my computer from a steady 80-100fps to an unplayable 15fps.

I've asked him several times, politely, to change the effect. He completely ignores me. Obviously people on the server have good advice like "get a better computer lol" but since I'm running a GTX 560 and have no other issues on TF2, the fault clearly isn't with my equipment.

It isn't just the frame rate - as soon as PS appears with his silly hat effect, my computer stutters, accesses the HD regularly, and turns a fun game into a pain in the arse.

Not that I expect special privileges but I'm a donator and I see no reason to continue to donate when I can't play my favourite game on my favourite server.

Do you know what effect that is? In my 800+ hours on lotus servers I've never seen that.

GTX 560? It's got to be something other than your video card. I use 550Ti with 8GiB of ram and everything is fine.

Don't think I've ever seen that effect either.

That thing is super distracting despite your fps. Do strange hats take a different effect in pyrovision? Does it look like that/slow your system when you see it outside of pyrovision?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. perhaps the fire effects turn into sparkles. I'll have to test this out.

yeah.... In the donor hat effect menu, Fire 1 seems to cause this particle effect with pyrovision.

My only suggestion is to not visit pyroland when this is happening.

If that is the case it makes more sense for you to not visit pyroland. It's not really his fault if you choose to view that effect like that.

as it turns out now, it is not a donor only effect. you can have this with every player wearing an unusual, so it's not lotus servers fault. while in pyroland, you will meet this problem on other servers if there is another guy with this effect on.

In that case, it would appear to be a local problem on your end. The particle effect seems to be stuck.

Pyroland was fun for an hour, no more. i stay away from it and make sure I have zero PL items equipped.

Make sure you have no special items equipped: Goggles, Balloonicorn, Fart in a bottle, whatever.

Also, some maps don't have separate renders for Pyroland. Just do the routine of restarting everything or

uninstalling/reinstalling. It would suck to come down to the latter, but if you're having that much of a problem with it,

then you gotta do something.

Check that your drivers are updated and you've got the latest version of your operating system.

If you still run into the issues, perhaps you have a faulty video card.

Or maybe double check your video card settings for TF2.

I don't know what else to say, mate.

To be fair, the MtP update only happened recently, so of course you haven't seen this exact problem

It only happens in pyroland. Like Mike said, it's recent. It's not local to him.

Not necessarily correct. When I do Pyroland all that is different for me are the explosion and fire models. The map is still the same.

I used to be happy while wearing my pile of tires but then valve broke/blocked the custom hats.

Now the only cool thing is the fire effect.
