How To: The Easy Way To Idle For Drops

Recommended Posts

Idle is not much of a big thing anymore, anyway. I mean, item server resets at thursday, and then you get the items thrown after you. most times, i get 4-8 items on thursday, and for the rest of the week nothing. I rather play the Game to obtain them, other than to idle nowadays.

Those who idle don't normally do it on their main account. So, instead, they have IDLE accounts.

and how exactly do you turn it back on afterwards?

You propably just have to delete '-textmode -nosound -noipx -novid -nopreload -nojoy -sw -maxplayers 2 +sv_lan 1 +map "itemtest"' from the start launch options and restart the game.

i did this for like 5 hours, and I got nothing...... and I am pretty sure the amount of items drop has not pass the limit yet....

You know as of this week mine dropped to only 0-1 as well (was usually around 10-12). Interesting to see if it happens 2 weeks in a row. I just reinstalled my comp so I figured it was something I had done.

You'll only get about 8 - 12 items a week.

Yea from my experience, and a lot of research earlier on, The item caps are at 12 items max or 10 full hours of weekly gameplay. After the 10 hours a week you will not get any more drops :D

yes, this is why I idle per account only 2-3 evenings, meaning 8-12 hours total.

because then I am sure either I had the max item cap, or, when unlucky, I hit that 10 hours limit.

Ok, for the Linux users out there, the OP doesn't work. This is what I have found that does work, through terminal (and would look like like it does in command prompt). You do need Steam client installed, just as you would on Windows, so don't try and make this too cheap tongue.png

  • 1. Open Terminal
  • 2. Type steam steam://open/games
  • 3. Right click on Team Fortress 2, select Properties. Click Set Launch Options...
  • 4. Paste this in the text field:
-textmode -window -console -noshader -nosound -low -novid -nopreload -replay_enable 0 -nohltv -tvdisable -nojoy -width 640 -height 480 +sv_password "yourpassword" -sw -port 29015 +sv_lan 0 +map itemtest +maxplayers 32 +mp_idledealmethod 0 -insecure

YOU WILL NEED TO PUT IN YOUR PASSWORD

  • 5. Press Ok, Close, and play Team Fortress 2.
  • 6. Look at your Terminal and you will see it acting as if you were idling in Command Prompt in Windows.

To close out of Team Fortress 2 through the Terminal, press Control + C. This basically makes the game crash out and exit. It's currently the only way I know how to exit out through the Terminal.

Good to know, updated. I am sure a few of the commands are half pointless. I just know it works :P
