Climhazzard 654 #1 Posted February 11, 2013 There's been a lot of cheaters and hackers around recently I figured bans would be kind of a rare occasion, but that's not the case. Doesn't Valve have some sort of PunkBuster™, or is it up to the communities that run certain servers, like ours? When I join some servers, I'll see the VAC shield thing, protected by or whatever, but does it even help? I think someone needs to update or get a new anti-cheat system Thanks again to Sleepy al and Hazmat, who without, we would still have a hacker who was good at hiding his hacks, playing with us! You can't expect a Server to be safe just because it has VAC on it. VAC is pretty good apparently, but Hackers are better. You can bypass it with various programs, because there is as good as always a lack of safety. It's always the question how experienced the Hacker is. Possum 10,776 #3 Posted February 11, 2013 VAC is different from Punkbuster, in the sense that VAC is not a piece of shit. One thing to remember is that VAC bans are often delayed by a couple of weeks, so as to not make it obvious what people are banned for, and make sure more hackers are caught. Regardless, Misa-Chan is right, while VAC is good, it is by no means infallible, and there are plenty of hacks that can go undetected by it. VAC is constantly updated as well, but it is an ongoing battle. Read more if you want, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valve_Anti-Cheat is interesting. Also, if you're bored of hackers, go play on a non-2fort server: that the majority of hackers are on 2fort servers for some reason (especially Se7en). Nano 7,892 #4 Posted February 11, 2013 VAC stands for Valve Anti Cheat. It is the underlying system similar to Punkbuster. The rest is up to us. We have been dramatically increasing the number of admins on the servers, which is probably one of the reasons you are seeing more hackers getting caught. DutchKev 425 #5 Posted February 11, 2013 from what i see the bans mainly come down to 2 classes, sniper with aimbot / wallhack and heavy with crithack and name changing as pointed out already, lotus are now more than ever aware of the hackers as more and more people play on the servers, thus more and more reports are being filed, i myself have encountered more than one hacker on my regular dustbowl server, but even though the servers my vary, the hacks do not and anyone who wants to invest the time to getting around the VAC they you can guarantee they'll test all the hacks to see what they can get away with. aimbots are getting more and more difficult to spot, although some are blatently obvious, wall hacks, unless being played by sniper or a camping heavy can be impossible to detect at times so more and more demos are being recorded and opinions are needed to verify the authentisity of the players. this is all my two cents obviously - but even though there are more ban requests being submited, it just means that lotus is clamping down on hackers and the servers are staying clean 1 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
