Hey Lotus,

I love playing on the arena server and it's my favorite server. But lately alot of people abuse the voteban/votekick mechanic. People get banned for no reason at all, just cause a few random pricks start the voteban and alot of other players just press 1 to get rid of the voteban thing on the screen so they can continue playing. Or they say somebody is a hacker so that others vote yes as well. This has really made the joy of playing on the server alot less fun, so much, that I'm actually thinking about just going to another arena servers.. I sometimes see an admin there called James but he doesnt (or cant) do anything about it as well.

I hope that through this post maybe something can be done against the people (always the same) who are doing this or to just remove the voteban/votekick mechanic. To be honest I have never seen that voteban mechanic being just properly against somebody who deserved it or cheated. They only use it to grief and troll.

I hope you guys can do something about it. Arena servers are a dying breed, I dont wanne lose this server!

Hi Johanna,

The easiest solution is to type !calladmin into chat when this is occurring, and an admin will be along shortly to help you. =)

If certain people are consistently abusing voting, you can also take screenshots or a demo and post it on the forums as a ban request.

If you are referring to me I am not an admin I am just a mear recruit and though I do disagree with the principle of votebanning/votekicking for no reason I am not sure where my opinion lies on removing it completely because I do see it used to kick afkers/hackers occasionally though I do agree this is no longer the main usage like you say, it is now being used to kick randomers and just for "Laughs"

but yeah I think abusing the vote = report it and I am sure the real admins will do there job

Votebans are not permanent, they only last 30 minutes so all could be worse however as Kitten said if you see people abusing their donator powers on the server use the !calladmin feature and any admin online will be notified there is an issue and hopefully will be able to join. Also it is useful to maybe record this footage of abuse whether it is by video or screenshots.

Re: your post edit. James isn't an admin, so he can't do anything - but an admin will join your server if you type !calladmin.

If you can't get an admin, if you type "record <filename> into your console, and then status (you might have to enable this in advanced options, the hotkey is ~) you'll record a demo that you can share with us on the forums.

Thirdly, feel free to add me on steam and I'll come join your server if I'm around when you're playing and worried about harassment.

Thx for the replies guys. Well If I have to record every random guy that starts these I'll be more busy recording than actually playing the game As you can see alot of people think this is getting out of hand. Can't you guys consider removing it? I mean there is an automatic AFK kicker and if there is a cheater people can just call for an admin to take care of things.

Kitten, I'm a free to play player so at the moment i can't add people myself, Ill try if i can change this and then I'll add you so I can tell you if they are abusing it. I'll also try to take a few screenshots of the persons who are doing this in the upcomming days. There are like 4 people who really just do it non stop, If we could get rid of these it would be a great step forward as well.

You don't need to record a demo - just type !calladmin.

Yeah, just !calladmin. If by some chance there is no admin responding at the time, save the name/steamID and the server IP and we can review the chat logs later.

I got vote banned a few times from US servers by raging people, kept killing th so they banned me because I was "laggy". Best part is being "laggy" didn't stop me from killing them, it only works the other way around it would seem. Oh well.

You are more sensible than I. If it is something I'm not sure about I contact an admin and ask them as I did with Cactus the other day when I wasn't sure if someone was being racist. If it is just people being stupid I ask them not to do it and if they keep doing it (or it is blatantly disruptive) I just tell them I'll have no problem calling a votekick on them as I did on 2Fort tonight. I imagine I could be seen to be abusing my powers if I got a call wrong, but I usually let some mischief go, unless the game is very close and people have been playing it for a long time (like some of the recent 2 hour 2Fort matches lol). Anyway, if I get a call wrong and someone makes a fuss then I will happily stand in front of the admins and explain myself. I don't consider myself an abuser of my donor powers so I'm not worried about it.

Don't act like a dick in game. If people still try to !votekick or !voteban you then type, "!calladmin" into chat.

That aside, it seems to be a general issue on that server. Been there a couple of times already and it's always the pit of morons that does that kind of thing. Guess it's time to spread some bans there.

Contact you, and if it is clear that it is a bullshit vote, remove that ban (even if it is only 30 mins).

We usually check the logs before we act against anyone. Said logs were the reason i started banning people now - seriously, coming up with "voteban" against 5 people in 5 minutes...

Usually a good idea is to type "status" and "condump" right after calling an admin, and send the file generated to us in case a bullshit vote passes.
