Issue with Servers

Recommended Posts

Following happened:
I joined Dustbowl UK x33. I played a bit, got brutally force switched when my team was about to win, well what always happens to me.

The problem is, the next round started, and a player called "World's most annoying Spy" used his console to switch his class to heavy while he already was heavy and kept using the Put Dispenser here voice command. I found that pretty funny, seeing him teleport from place to place in spawn saying poot poot and tried to record it. Right when I typed "record lol" in console the server crashed. I don't know if I was just VERY unlucky or the server seems to crash because of this. It never happened before, but I am pretty sure it's not just a coincidence that the whole server crashs right after I tried to record something. Normally the servers freeze for me once I try to record something (everyone stops moving and is still in their walking/jumping animation) and I hope I didn't cause the server to crash that way. Just felt like leaving this here because this never happened before and seems to be either my fault or the fault of the heavy.

You can't crash a server when performing a local command like that. At least I think so. It's likely that just your client crashed.

No, the whole server crashed -.-

It went off the list and when it was back, from 28 people it went to 0

Then it's just bad timing. I don't have access to server logs though, so Mana would have to confirm that.

moved to tf2 server subforum.

I'll try to see if I can't replicate this today and report back if I can.  If someone else reading this had it happen to them since the smissmas update please let me know via reply to this topic.

Anyone else who has 5 minutes to try it on their server is welcome to report back as well.

he's done this every round and for the past 2 or 3 weeks it's never crashed the server - i think its just very bad luck / timing on your end

When you start recording, you're frame rate will freeze for about a second than be really laggy till you die. Than it starts acting normal. But when you just start recording its always frozen for about a second for me.

It freezes for a second for me, but then stops.  I don't have to die first anyway.

Slightly off topic but if you're having recording issues I can recommend P-REC. You get initial 1 second delay but then it's fine and under certain conditions (like tournament play) it records automatically. Installing it is as simple as downloading a file and putting the contents if the file into your TF2 folder.

Servers don't handle your local recordings.  Many games' servers don't even have any rendering at all.  It's just coincidental timing that the server crashed or restarted at the same time you recorded a demo.
