Civilian Mode.

Recommended Posts

I've searched through 5~ pages here to see if I can find some official call on "Civilian" mode. (Someone glitched to look as if they're high-fiving, or standing in a fixed position while moving around and shooting)

Normally, this isn't a major deal for me. Today however, I noticed a Heavy with the Tomislav abusing Civilian mode. I just want to know how I should react to instances such as this. Thanks in advance.

This is a bannable conduct as it gives the person who's abusing the glitch an unfair advantage. Example: not being able to see if a sniper is scoped in ; not seeing what weapon the offender is wielding. As mentioned above, report by using !calladmin or grab a demo and post in the ban section of the forum.

Surely, as someone who is not and was never a staff member or an admin, you would know all about that? blink.png

Common sense, of course. Exploiting something that was never intended to be in the game and that most other players don't know of clearly offers an advantage over them, which unbalances the game and should deserve a ban (unless it was by accident).

It was just my opinion. Having seen that you have banned people for abusing other glitches. Also I recall having seen "civilian" on another community's servers MOTD as a bannable offense.

I posted this in admin lounge, I don't see a reason not to share it here.

99 times out of 100 this is a client glitch (can't count the amount of times Balls of Steel appeared as if he was swimming for me) and can be fixed by usual methods for fixing graphical glitches - record a demo, which requests a full client update and redraws all models, stop it immediately afterwards.

Otherwise, when someone enters the reference pose, this means that they either are not using any weapon (rendering them unable to shoot and deal damage) or that they are using a weapon which the class doesn't have an animation for, which is a common occurrence on randomizer servers. They will also lose the pose when they die. Their hitboxes do not change (a headshot is still a headshot), and thus they are still as killable as anyone else.

There's a difference between glitches and exploits. While both are product of Valve's shit QA, glitches are, much as humans, mostly harmless, but exploits influence gameplay and should thus be dealt with appropriately.

As I said, it wouldn't have been a big deal if he wasn't using the Tomislav specifically, and the only classes he'd use while in Civ mode were Heavy and Sniper. I called him on the "glitch", to which he just replied "No." (I'd asked him to quit using Civ mode)

In this case it was clearly exploitation. I'll know to demo it in the future. Thanks for your replies.

There are almost no demos of this and the invisible players bug because recording a demo usually fixes it.. ;O

I asked this a while back and honestly, several people responded with their personal opinions but I never saw an official position from Lotus.
