I have played LoL too. NA server with friend (colleague) and another colleague (noob) at the time. It's similar to dota or dota is similar to lol. I'm really not bothered by it all.

The only thing i didn't like about lol is that i had to pay to play a certain hero. While dota, you can play all heroes.

As i said, i never understood the hatred. Let everyone play what they want to play >>

Proof that ranks don't mean too much: was playing with a bunch of people yesterday, Random Deathmatch. Was the lowest MMR in the game, "by far" as i've been told later.

Still only died once, and got 5 out of 6 towers.

I hear you. It's like stats we had for TF2, it just adds another element which spans the entire game rather than the stats from a single match. Pretty meaningless unless you intend to play pro or semi pro and even then, as with any game, it doesn't mean there aren't people out there better than you who don't play ranked games.

I like long term goals in games, not so I can grind out games without enjoying them, but just so I don't feel like hours and hours are totally without a purpose (even if they are, its a game after all) and so I can get an idea of where I am globally on an official scale.

I like serious competitive side of games, I'd say 50% of the time I play focused (which is why I sometimes for instance don't chat in mumble) and 50% I mess around with friends (like doing a stealth mission in payday 2 and then just as we're leaving I shoot the front of the bank up because yolo...lols all round).

I only realistically dip my toe in comp though...but I can dream lol.
