i've have gotten boots first, thought, as vlads doesn't give you that much of an edge without the ability to actually get in and out.

 

I usually go ring of basil first (with pesto!), then boots, then mask, then the rest.

I wanted to be able to farm faster though.  With my third ability I get a movement speed bonus over others if they come up to the creep wave and want to mix it up...this game was not one where I had to worry about movement speed so much at the laning stage so....farming it is.

To be honest sometimes I get to the point where I can buy boots and I just think I need something else more.  Our lane was a pushover so....time to farm.

Okay. Based on some basic numbers (yes, i know, i should be working right now)

I took an Abbadon lvl 3 as base. 2 points in curse, one in stats.

 

Based on that, you'd have

~810 Effective Hitpoints against phys damage,

~960 Effective Hitpoints against magical damage, 

Health Regen of 1.16,

DPS of 56.3

 

So, i threw in 2 item sets for ~1400 gold: Power threads and ring of basilius and morbid mask

 

1) power threads set to strength

Effective HP against phys damage: ~981

Effective HP against magical damage: ~1163

Health Regen of 1.4

DPS 75.8

2) ring of basilius, morbid mask

Effective HP against phys damage ~940

Effective HP against magical damage: ~960

Health Regen of 1.2 + ~8 from lifesteal

DPS 61.3

 

With this setup, at lvl 3, the power threads will give you better survivability against early ganks in my opinion, and if you don't directly tank the damage probably a better farm, too. The other combo will keep you in lane longer after short fights with medium damage (taking a few hits), if you can get close enough to the creeps to heal up without taking more damage.

 

 

At lvl 5, 3 points in curse, 2 in stats.

Base: 

~995 Effective Hitpoints against phys damage, 

~1137 Effective Hitpoints against magical damage, 

Health Regen of 1.38, 

DPS of 68.1

 

I added items for about 2100 gold

Build 1: power threads, and ring of basil (boots first vlads next) plus 3 branches to get closer to 2100 x)

~1458 Effective Hitpoints against phys damage, 

~1416 Effective Hitpoints against magical damage, 

Health Regen of 1.7

DPS of 117.4

 

Build 2: vlads

~1251 Effective Hitpoints against phys damage, 

~1137 Effective Hitpoints against magical damage, 

Health Regen of 3.38 + ~12.5 from lifesteal

DPS of 78.3

 

 

Hmm. Basically the same as with level 3. Once again, Boots as priority "wins".

This of course doesn't include the fact that you might be a support and have to buy and deal with other stuff.

I don't buy power treads as support, plus I was playing P5 support.  Just because the numbers say boots should be a priority (which is obvious anyway), doesn't mean you have to buy them.  I bought the vlads as it would help me farm faster.

And it's a great support item, too. I was more thinking in the way of semi carry there, but yes, vlads makes more sense as a support.

It was a punt.  The lane was going well so I didn't need to escape from anything, plus we were getting kills so I didn't need to chase anything down.  What I needed was gold....so....no need for boots just yet.

I felt like I shouldn't really be buying it, but it will get me what I need faster...even if it means for 5 minutes I was in a weird place items wise.

I don't always buy it...but as things are going quite well with this hero I allow myself a little "flexibility"

It's really hard to not buy arcane boots all the time.  Personally I'd prefer starting with tranquils and a soul ring and switch to BoTs at about 30 minutes.  Unfortunately the cries of "mana...MANA...." usually put paid to that.

It's a kind of circle of doom though....if you buy arcanes people have a tendency to be more wasteful of their mana.

Given that you usually play safelane, you ought to be stuck with a hard carry, which are usually less mana dependent than say, an Axe.

Also worth nothing that tranqs are cheaper than arcs, which means you could grab a few claritys to tide them over or you can hand the sage's mask from your soul ring to your carry for extra regen (I think)
