Donor features.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

The server obviously will need supporting financially, the best method for this isn't to ask you all for donations, it's providing a benefit from donations.

Due to the EULA set by Monjang prior to the takeover by Microsoft, all donor features cannot be game-altering (I.E. one player is immune while another is not).

But we still need some form of donor system. So if you could suggest some possible donor perks, that is another thing ironed out :)

If it turns out we're rolling with chat plugins like [A] for admin anyway, give a donor tag. I'm not a fan at all of colored names. Colored tags achieve the same thing without 'bloating' the chat with unicorn vomit names. Admin one color, donor another, the way we used to do it on the tf2 servers.

I'm not a fan of tiered donor systems either, but if a higher tier can be offered, I'd offer one with a reserved slot. I don't think we'd want that with every single donor, at least without seeing how the server goes. Alternatively you could just have five additional slots reserved for donors.

Donor/VIP rank, green name or something?

uh.. What I quite liked on a server I play on is a warp system for donors, so donors could warp (teleport) to some cluster points.

Keep in mind that we can't 'sell' features to earn money, so these features shouldn't be huge so people need to donate to have a chance. Rather a 'thank you for donating'.

Apparently Mana isn't too fussed about the EULA, not that I'd like to break it, but still... :P

We really should try to avoid actual ingame features in my opinion. I don't think donors should get an ingame advantage, alongside how they can shut it down if they wish.

Not like it's TF2. Where such a thing would be very unfair to everyone.

Though if we do ever have a competitive pvp minecraft server It will definitely not have any game breaking benefits :P.

Plus what EULA? I never agreed to it.

I have only ever done cosmetics in the MC servers I've set up. Such as any block for a hat, pets which follow you (any pet, any.. pet), a backpack (size of a double chest) etc - nothing too gamebreaking.

EULA is an agreement you ... agree to when you host a server; the EULA is a .txt which sits in the root of your server :)

Shall we just see how the server runs for a month or two before we discuss this sort of thing?

Donator really implies its open to public - where as if lotus members are playing on it, surely their donation reward = the server stays up.

A .txt? Would be a shame if.. someone.. deleted a few lines.

Well, with no fundamental backing from Mana this will probably run as a test for some time and if a sustainable amount of income keeps the server up then good. We will be able to improve on what we have and see what the community's best interests will become.

As for donator, I wouldn't say it implies anything being public. But then it aint much for people to join as a regular but then only be active on minecraft. This could be an issue, but it is something that will happen as lotus expands on different games. The thing is all current lotusonians share a common interest in tf2 and that brought as here. We all sort of know eachother and share that interest, with expansion on games this will slowly decline.
