Pyro Unlockables Thursay, Free Weekend Part 2 Friday

The main event of the week is the Pyro Update, which will be made available this Thursday and contains three unlockable new weapons for the Pyro plus 35 new achievements. In addition, two user-created maps are included to highlight the great work being done in the community and distribute those works to all TF2 players.

Meanwhile as folks wait for the Pyro Update to be released, the latest in the "Meet the Team" video shorts, "Meet the Sniper," will be made available tomorrow (Tuesday, June 17) at 11 am PDT along with a web site dedicated to the Pyro update.

Finally, to give everyone a chance to try the new weapons and community maps, Valve will hold another Team Fortress 2 Free Weekend via Steam, a leading online platform for the delivery and management of PC games. The Free Weekend is scheduled to begin this Friday at 11 am PDT.

Valve sure loves Free Weekends.

Wonder which 2 maps are these :o.

I hope you add them to the stock maps selection. i'm getting fucking tired of playing 2fort/goldrush/dustbowl all the time, and even on stock maps those are the most played maps.

I'll definitely join... even if I'm gonna stop playing for a while, gotta keep up to date with those weapons! Although I haven't unlocked the ubersaw yet...

nice a lot of those achievments we can actually do on a real game exept maybe the one were we gatta kill people that are taunting or where u gatta kill someone with your taunt...how do u do that?

In addition to the three unlockable Pyro weapons, we've made a significant addition to the base Pyro flamethrower. By hitting the alt-fire key, the Pyro is able to produce a blast of compressed air that knocks enemies away, and redirects enemy projectiles. It?s a highly versatile tool, allowing Pyros to get away from nearby enemies after igniting them, to kill enemy soldiers with their own rockets, or to separate enemy Medics from their healing targets. In particular, it allows a skilled Pyro to contain an enemy invulnerability push, and even to separate the Medic completely if the surrounding terrain supports it.

Turbine is ok, I love sneaking through it as spy. But I'm suprised they didn't take cp_Orange. never heard of fastlane though, looks kind of neat.

Looks like the achivement 'attention getter' actually requires the use of one of the new weapons. At least these dont require the coordination of someone your healing/ubering so it should be easier then the medic ones.

Orange looks like crap, in more ways than one. Also doesn't fit the TF2 style 100%. Not the kind of map Valve would or should pick.

You are talking about cp_orange_x3 and the likes, correct?

yeah, I was kind of thinking they would go with whats popular, but they went with what fits their style. Fine by me, never really did like orange much anyway and I cant wait to try out fastlane.

i'm not big on the pyro, kinda suck, and i thought they were going to ease up on the achievement ordeal to unlock weapons. I'm just not going to play the pyro enough to unlock this stuff, kinda a bummer, but not big deal. Should be fun blowing up lots of pyros with stickys this weekend.

It removes the compression blast capability, instead guaranteeing critical hits whenever it?s used on an opponent from behind.

Since they've already perfected the spy's back stab, I foresee ZERO problems with this.

I think the new regular flamer is way cooler. The knock back? thats gotta be the greatest thing ever. If you can knock back the soldiers rockets, not only are you hurting him, but soon hes out of ammo and has to reload while you finish him off. I think the pyro's upgrades are significantly better than the medics weapons. None of the weapons except the axtinguisher has a con to it. The new flamer is +50 HP, Crit from the Back, and same damage as the regular gun.

Me and my friend are going to an achievement server tomorrow. I estimate no more than 2 hours will I get all the 3 new weapons. You only need 25 /35 achievements to get them all.

The new flamer can't crit from the front though, which is certainly a bad thing.

Also, the new gun (flaregun) has no scatter-- it's like the pistol or revolver, one shot that needs to be carefully aimed. It also probably travels slower than bullets, although I dunno as I haven't seen it in action... just a guess.

So yeah, all of the weapons have drawbacks, it's just that the Pyro's drawbacks aren't as large.

interesting you know all this in such detail with a guess.

See my guess is different than yours. The pyro's flare gun shoots barbeque chicken at my screen and real food comes out of my monitor.

The first bit of information is taken from the preview. The second one is a guess.

The first Pyro unlockable is The Flare Gun, which replaces the shotgun. It allows the Pyro to ignite an enemy at long range, but does require careful aim on their part. It’s particularly useful for causing havoc on Snipers and Engineers who want to keep their distance.

As for the second bit, I did qualify it as just a guess, but to explain... it is called a flare gun so I predicted it would shoot something other than bullets, and it doesn't shoot shot because it doen't scatter (see above). Given the shape of the barrel as well, it looks like it shoots something larger than a bullet anyway. Because of this, it's possible that it won't be an instant travel like bullets.

It's amazing how much one can guesstimate if they actually pay attention, isn't it?

Look at the size of the barrel of the gun. Assuming that's the same rough size as the shotgun instead of a pistol (the grip kinda throws me), that would be capable of producing a shot the size of the rocket.

It being called a flare gun, makes me think that it'll be like a rocket except faster, and then set whatever it hits on fire. I sincerely doubt it will have a huge AoE (would be too powerful and not require careful aiming as stated), although it might have a small one.

Don't mind me, the speculation is just a way to waste time while waiting for the update :P

Flaregun sounds like it will be like the Pyro's incendiary rocket launcher in TFC.

Also, I had no idea the fireball taunt with the shotgun actually did damage.
