Healer-healed Bond

Recommended Posts

When I first started this game I didn't know a lot, so I play medic so could watch the good players, and contribute as well. When I was a medic every once in awhile I would find a great partner to heal who knew how to play, and thought the same way I did on how to approach an attack. I have those same bonds, but with the opposite side, there are some medics that are just always int he right place at the right time on purpose. Some of those, even if they don't have a mic, can show there appreciation for you in obvious ways as giving you their ubers, going everywhere you go(but heal everyone around you). Its a good friendship of support that has lead me to make many friends. And what started the ever famous Mr Pain and Shpadoinkle theme song. Who here has ever had a remarkable experience as a medic or with one (excluding mini and oinyo, those engi bastards never need a medic).

I had a pretty special bond with this one medic... his name was something night or night something... and I can't remember if he used kritz or uber, but he used it a bunch and we did good... or maybe we didn't.

A totally unforgettable experience!

Me and pain raped the dustbowl server a few times. At one point i even pulled out the kritzkrieg and we wiped out the other team without giving up a single capture. Me and Novas have also paired up a few times(usually because he begs for my uber) and many a sentry died to his flames as he was ubered. We were a little less successful when I ubered him as spy.

Haha... When I used to play in the [-Q-] Clan servers I'd always stick to playing medic. Before the updates, the 3 best classes were Sniper(If you played offensively and could snipe at close range), Medic(Needle gun pwnz), and Soldier. The Medic though, seemed to reign supreme in his potential ability, because of his Needle Gun and Bonesaw, a lot of power for any range. Being able to stay alive longest I'd always try to guide the team and give constant reports on enemy player positions with how easy valve made it stay alive as a medic. At the end of huge winning streaks in servers with various teams on various maps. The praise would always come to the organization of what people were doing, occasionally I would receive direct praise for simply telling people where I needed them to be to be effective. Like where a demo should be spamming nades, or where a pyro should be overwhelming a group of players.

Anyways... out of all of this... my favourite part is seeing the players that listened to me, grow and become very skilled simply from learning to spy out those spots themselves. I find it really cool to see a player go from one of the worst, to the best just because you told them what to do without a temper or attitude. Something a lot of players lack today is the tolerance to tell the newer guys what to do, risking their opposition. Who really cares if they oppose you... if they do, they'll keep getting killed, sometimes it takes them longer to learn what to do, be it from you or someone else that has no problem giving instructions to organize a team.

The biggest part of being medic, I think, is that people respect you when you keep em alive really well, they never say it like Camail said, but they really appreciate it. That appreciation helps to give you power in your words. i.e. when I'm about to uber someone, I usually look at the other players around that are rushing with us, I'll usually tell them to give some heavy spam while I rush in, or to stay behind the uber, then when we're distracting the enemy, to go through another corridor and do something useful around there.

In conclusion, I'd say that medics can be the strongest players of a team. They easily have the greatest potential as a commander, a support class, and a killing machine if need be. Just imagine a server without them.

I've had some really awesome experiences... I would end up having them usually friend me (or vice versa) as a result. We never seemed to play again after that, but at the time, it was awesome.

I really liked some of the medics that were lotus recruits, but a lot of them seemed to have disappeared.

Mana The Awesome! and i had good bond today.....did the ubersaw medic combo even though we didnt need it cuz Mana The Awesome! turned our uber rate up to bout .1 seconds and had overhealer on so we had 450 hp running around pwning fools. it was amazing and everyone called us hackers. so then Mana The Awesome! made it foggy and then dark and it was good times.

Ah so Alt is Sola's medic. They randomly showed up together on the 2fort west server so I guess that makes sense. And Sola's a good communicator, which I value more than whatever skill he (or whoever else) may bring to the table.

And its true, in TF2 there is no way more effective way to create a positive team relationship than saving your teammates from almost certain death and the irritation of waiting for another 10-15secs to spawn. Do so regularly and the love will rain down.

And on topic I cant say Ive had a true 'bond' experience with anyone in particular. Im move around the map too much to come into contact with the same person over and over usually. But thank you all that have healed me or protected me while I did so ;).

The frustrating thing about playing on Solahma's team is that its nigh impossible to get healed.

Im a great freaking medic. There is a concept of limited resources. You simply cant heal everyone all the time. Thus, you must pick wisely. Just like a firefighter, if there are two fires, you go to the fire with the most people/property first. This is economics 101. If 10 people come into the hospital with life threatening condition but 9 of them can be cured in 10 minutes, and the last person takes 2 hours to cure, and all 10 will die in 1 hour, you threat the ones who can be cure the easiest. Thus saving the most possible numbers.

Same concept in the game. If two people are going to die, and I can save only one of them, I will attempt to save the better player. But if everyone is safe at the current moment, I will cycle through everyone. I also put more attention on the people in the front line because they are most likely at risk. Also, healing a person on fire for just 1 second will prevent them from burning to death. If 5 people are on fire, I will quickly cycle through all of them, 1 second each, and then go back to the person who needs it the most.

Except 3 people can be on fire, and nothing can be happening, and altpluzF4 will stare right past you.

Try explaining what you mean instead of using random anecdotes, btw.

You sound like Bill Cosby.

Well ya seeeee

If there are only three puddin pops, and the whole Cosby crew is comin oveeeerrr; ya gotta prioritize the puddin pops.

Its just Cosby 101 people.

As you can see, medics are like puddin pops... and Solahma is Fat Albert.

Yeah I agree. Holding the heal gun on Solahma when he is at full health and not at risk, its not medic optimization. Certainly you want to put emphasis on good players, but you still want to keep the average players alive if it takes minimal effort. Some times I will heal a burning person just enough so that he stays alive. If there is nobody else in danger I will continue healing him. If there are other people at the front line getting hit I will switch targets. He is already behind the front lines so his risk of dying is low, even with low health. He can grab a heal pack himself if he wants.

Most people gt perma-medics because they are good at the game and help your team win, from what I heard Solahma just stays back and camps as a soldier with a medic whoring off his every move. Thus not contributing to the advance, but most of the games I've seen him play in are 2fort, which is a useless shit map to begin with. He is clearly a defensive player just by looking at his stats. As of of now 71.51% of his wins are defense, so he plays defense three times as much as offense assuming he is so good that he winds all the time on both sides. Another conclusion is that he plays them equally, but phails at life, therefor getting only 1/3 of the success. This would make you assume he only makes an impact on the team as a defensive meat turret with a drone medic. Unless he can tell me otherwise, the facts point to phail. I've long ignored him as a ranked player, or even a player for that matter. So the medics who are aware of rank will whore off of him, but I am 99% sure I'm the only one who has looked at the data. But I like it when medics keep everyone buffed in non-critical fights. Though if it is critical I'm usually tanking it out around a corner and get healed a lot, so I don't ahve a personal opinion for being someone only in semi-danger.

I would say i've had that kind of great experience with a few people, including SoWz at our last practice, just by watching him play and seeing how he places himself i've learned a lot about playing heavy. Didnt keep me from healing the rest of the team, but i was around him most of the time just to see how he was playing, so i could learn.

I am pretty much of a perma medic, i'm just not assigned to anyone and i don't want to. Obviously i will tend to prioritize people i know, people whom i've played with before since i know how they will react in many situations.
