xStil 0 #1 Posted December 23, 2008 My internet partially shut down yesterday (I could not open most web pages, wikipedia, google, gbg.bg opened quickly, but all else just stood there and waited...at the same time, Avast! antivirus was able to download its update files in a flash, and I could chat via any messenger I have) My ISP is Rogers (canada) and they told me that everyone in my neighborhood had the same problem...They fixed it just now! The problem is still there- My router refuses to accept DHCP IPs...I click on the IP release and renew and nothing changes  So The router only sends LAN info... When I connect the modem directly to the PC, rather than the router's 'internet' port, I have internet, but the router doesn't accept that... Here's my router: http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http...l%3Den%26sa%3DN If it helps- when I click the button right below the CISCO logo (the two white arrows), the light right above them flashes for a few minutes, then goes red/orange, and then shuts off... xStil 0 #3 Posted December 23, 2008 OK, I am trying to set up a static IP for the router, rather than an automatic DHCP connection... What I do- 1. Go to setup (in the picture, setup is the first option in the black bar, on the right of 'Status'. 2. In the connection type drop-down menu, I set 'Static IP' rather than DHCP Now, it asks me for 1. Internet IP address 2. Subnet mask 3. Default gateway 4. DNS server(s) Here is the IPconfig data when the modem is attached to the PC rather than the router: (Unfortunately, they do not work for the router in this order. so I need help here) /NUL-->Information no longer available, as problem is solved. If anyone knows how I can set up the static IP's properly, plz help!!! Why couldn't people just stick with dial-up- I bet it had less problems
stoos 0 #4 Posted December 23, 2008 go to manufacturer page of your router and download the last firmware. update your router or set it to defaults. and don't set a static IP. may be you just played to much with the router settings.
