+Henry Spencer 117 #30 Posted April 8, 2009 Wait... what's Highlander? >_> If it's something competitive, I wouldn't know about it. I've never desired to play this game competitively.

SlingBlade 0 #32 Posted April 9, 2009 I'm curious how many people from goldrush we could actually get to participate and who'd they would be, same on the stock side. Off the top of my head i can think of me [god of goldrush ] , brando, deadeye and on stock side KillerKeg,Miyari, Nket On a side note goldrush is too boring sometimes so you'll notice me on the stock/arena server more often. I've already put killerkeg to shame a few times
+Henry Spencer 117 #33 Posted April 9, 2009 I'll be back home tomorrow. Gimme a night to get back up to par, and I might be game. Idk, it's been a few weeks since I've been able to get some serious playtime in.

The Lorax 25 #41 Posted April 9, 2009 I played on goldrush only for months, then switched back to stock a few months ago. Stock maps regulars are better hands down. It is a whole different level of competition. Speaking as someone who used to be very high in the stats when I was playing goldrush 24/7, and nothing else, goldrush is the fastest way to pad your stats. The map takes no real skill to rack up kills in the 100's in less than a half hour. If you want to know how skilled a player you really are, then play on any map that doesn't have 20 different spammable chokepoints. Don't get me wrong, I love goldrush. It is, and probably always will be my favorite map, but it is just too easy to play. It's no coincidence that almost all of the top 20 or 30 are goldrush only players. I switched to stock and watched my stats drop like a rock against the better players on the server. It took me weeks to get back up to a level where I was competing again. Part of that was due to unfamiliarity with the maps that I hadn't played on in months, but mostly it was lack of skill. Bottom line: Goldrush players would be crushed by stocks, period. Even on goldrush.

Rydawg 14 #43 Posted April 9, 2009 Watching slingblade last night. It would take A REALLY LONG TIME for grush stackers to get up to par to play on a map thats not Gold Rush.

Deadeye 0 #45 Posted April 9, 2009 The only advantage stock has is that you have to play more than one map and learn new angles. I played Stock last night, no one really impressed me or anything. I dont know if everyone was just screwing around, thats what I eventually started doing. In the beginning there was baddd stacking. But the main problem was that the bad team were complete idiots. Im talking about 3 heavies RUNNING away from 2 pyros. While Im healing them. The bad team had hardly any medics that were dependable and almost no one you could count on to uber. They stomped us. A friend joined the game and went heavy, while I stayed medic. Instantly, we started tearing apart sentry nests and killing pairs of of them. When I say pairs I mean one of them with a medic. Their team had ifinite ubers I swear. lol Now I know that I dont play stock often so my experience is limited but... I saw no real moment where I just sat there going "wow that guy just owned us" except phantom's kritz. Those were beastly. But once my friend got there as a heavy, we ended him just running up and destroying everything while we were close enough to do anything. So my conclusion is that Goldrush has lots of good people who are great on goldrush. Stock has good people who are good and balanced in all maps. So Goldrush guys own on goldrush and stock guys are good on all maps. So the result would be Goldrush 1 Stock
SlingBlade 0 #46 Posted April 9, 2009 Watching slingblade last night. It would take A REALLY LONG TIME for grush stackers to get up to par to play on a map thats not Gold Rush. lol,the first map was horribly stacked on a really crappy map(turbine). The second map Steel which is really confusing and the first time i've played it. Even with that i was about 78 and #3 mvp was 84. As defense i didn't have to run around the map that much so i could learn that one area pretty quick and i did well even getting #1 mvp. On offense i got my ass kicked constantly by wandering around aimlessly or getting flanked by spawn points i didn't know were there... I'll get back into the hang of it, i've been gone for about 5 months and only the past month i've come back and been playing goldrush almost exclusively. PS. i'm coming for you with my bottle! Also, The krits arent that horrible from the B side in Steel, you just have to run by and stab them in the back.... like I did..... both times they were on D.... me = win
SlingBlade 0 #48 Posted April 9, 2009 Fair enough. I'm still going to get my bottle kill on ya though
Rivanor 1 #49 Posted April 9, 2009 I saw no real moment where I just sat there going "wow that guy just owned us" except phantom's kritz. Those were beastly. Lol.. Phantom's kritz's. Phantom is a good player, one of the better ones on there to be sure, but when he camps chokepoints/spawn areas as demo with kritzkrieg, it's just bad form IMO. I'd give him more props for his good sniper aim and ability to sense when he's about to get backstabbed than his spawn camping cheese. As for your team being idiots, well that's what happens when the teams are stacked. And BTW, when I was playing, your team had several good players on it, so they weren't all complete idiots. The Lorax 25 #50 Posted April 9, 2009 Well the only other thing I would say is that stocks doesn't play goldrush often. It is not terribly popular on the server. I think that stocks would still destroy on defense of goldrush, but might not play as well on offense. The times that I have played goldrush on stocks, even some of the more experienced players don't know how to really win it quickly. A big example is the first stage, where there is NO sg that cannot be destroyed from a relatively safe location by even a terrible demoman, and yet, there were three normally excellent demoman on our team who seemed unable to figure out how. If you play on goldrush long enough you know all the tricks about how rack up kills and clear sentries without much trouble. So, the goldrush folks might have a bit of a home field advantage, but I still say that in terms of skill, stocks are still where it's at.
