Words Of Wisdom From A Pro Player

Recommended Posts

1. I'm Ranked Number 2.

2. If your team loses, that mean you are a bad team player.

3. Being a good "individual" player, means you are probably a bad "team" player.

His epic stats:

newb.jpg

* Off by a factor of 250000%

* Because 1 player can carry an entire team right? And its your fault if your team doesn't know English right? There is some degree in which you can help communicate to your team. But your words wont add 400 hours of practice to your teammate. Playing video games is neuromuscular and a lot of the awareness is done subconsciously, just like a sport. You cant learn a sport from a book, and you can't teach a team member everything with words.

* Nket and KillerKeg and pretty much everyone good I know are just as good individually as they are on a team. The skills to win as a team is no different than the skills to win in a 1v1s. If you can kill in a 1v1, you can kill in a team. If you can walk onto a cap point in a 1v1, you can walk onto a cap point as a team. If you can predict the other players movements and actions in a 1v1, you can apply the same in a team. If you can build a sentry/teleporter/dispensor, you can build it on a team. The only time where you need two people to do something in TF2 is ubering. That only takes 2 people. So in the end, being a good player by yourself, and being a good player on a team pretty much come hand in hand. You might find a small percentage of the scenarios where this might not be true, but by in large, you are obviously wrong.

The only time I can think of that this is true is when a very small subset of people abuse the stat calculations by camping and getting high kdr count.

Its not possible for person A to get twice the kill, twice the capture, twice the domination using the same character and play style as person B and be a worse team player than person B.

Sounds like another player might have opened their mouth when he/she shouldn't have?

Either that or someone has very selective hearing when he is in desperate need of proving his point. Perhaps the statement about being "#2" was made in the context of something else? For example, consider the following scenario:

There occurs a brief discussion on the merits of putting sticky bombs on the point in order to block captures. Out of the blue, someone who was not involved in said discussion, but who has been consistently making insulting comments to a variety of people on the team, pipes up and says something juvenile and, to no one's surprise, once again insulting - remarking that the person stickying the point is a n00b or some such pathetic epithet. Now imagine that the hypothetical demoman points out, quite simply, that he is - not so coincidentally - that he is ranked #2 on the server in blocked captures... thereby proving the value of placing sticky bombs on the point. Now imagine that, for the next 5 minutes, the entire team then has to endure a verbal tirade by the insulter that there is no possible way that the demo in question could be #2 on the server... blatantly ignoring, for purposes of his own vendetta-like soliloquy, the fact that everyone is pointing out that #2 in blocked captures is not the same as being #2 on the server.

Let us continue our purely hypothetical exploration and add the possibility that the now infamous insulter is a person who has, on numerous occasions, expressed such a dislike for his victim that he has crossed the line from "game life" to "real life" and intentionally and brazenly sabotaged the victim's business and career (although, thankfully, with minimal effect) and even bragged about it publicly. Is it not unreasonable to assume that this same person would continue the misunderstanding and/or misrepresentation of the scenario so as to either further damage his intended victim's credibility or boost his own perceived status amongst those from whom he garners all of his self-esteem by posting his version of the statement on a public message board?

Now wouldn't it be amusing if someone else had been recording a demo of the entire escapade?

As for someone's rank and skill... isn't it common knowledge that the skill system hasn't been working or updating for a couple of months? And isn't it common knowledge that if you don't play TF2 for a long time your ranking tends to plummet from... for instance, around 300 to into the thousands? So... working with those two premises, there could be a sequence of events that would involve:

1) not playing for a significant time due to personal, business, or even dead computer reasons, thereby causing their ranking to drop precipitously, followed by

2) coming back to the server about the time that the stats system stops working - the effect of which is to freeze the player's stats at a pathetically abysmal value?

As for stats and numbers, some of the more interesting ones from the night in question include:

Person A getting repeatedly votekicked or votemuted with vote percentages routinely coming in above 80% of the server.

Person A repeatedly attempting to votekick or votemute Person B (whom Person A believes is personally responsible for his near-unanimous demise), and only managing to get about 30% of every single occurrence of 6 or 7 attempts... never once succeeding in getting Person B kicked or muted. Oh... and incurring the wrath of an entire server of people who were trying to play rather than be unwilling accomplices to a childish, personal vendetta more reminiscent of junior high than a world of ostensibly adult gamers.

On the subject of individuals vs. teams, both are important - a point that the OP once again seems to have consciously avoided admitting that the other people have already conceded. The bottom line (and the only one that was attempting to be argued by the community) is that all other things being equal, a team of individuals with skill N playing together in a coordinated fashion will beat a team of individuals with skill N playing as individuals with no regard for what their teammates are doing. Therefore, the point that was being made is simply that "being a skilled player isn't the only thing that matters." However, some people - particularly those whose entire ego is tied up in being recognized as a skilled TF2 player - may find particularly threatening the notion of raw individual skill not being the ONLY important thing in life. I can certainly understand his trepidation at acknowledging what people were actually trying to say. It threatens to undermine his entire currency of self-worth... not something to be broached quickly or without a significant amount of therapy.

Anyway... who knows what ever really happens on these late nights on Dustbowl? Unless, of course, numerous people have recorded numerous hours of demo video? (I know that I certainly don't have the hard drive space for that sort of adventure... but will be very amused to see an hour or so (after editing) of insults, mic spamming, and griefing by the most despised member of Lotus. I'm sure it will be very illuminating to those who don't often get to play with the Master of Hubris.

I fully expect that this will not be the last post by Suckboy in this thread. I also expect that this will not be the last time people such as myself are intentionally misrepresented by Suckboy for purposes of insult or defamation. The scary thing is, I am beginning to wonder how far Suckboy is going to go to make his point(s). I'm also beginning to be very concerned for his mental and physical well-being if the case of the increasingly likely eventuality that he gets permanently banned from one or more Lotus servers and/or kicked out of the esteemed Lotus clan. That's a suicide watch waiting to happen. Or perhaps a murder rampage in order to prove that an impressive amount of TF2 does not need to be tempered judiciously with a dose of people skills? It's sobering.

Lol, suckylife got pwned. Just shutup while you're behind, Life That Sucks.

Careful saying stuff like that. Whenever anyone talks back to him in-game, he tries to votekick them. (Is that abusive? Not sure.) Also, as we have seen, he has no qualms about trying to screw with people's personal life and business. You may be at risk, Melissa. Be careful.

I dno't really care either way. It Suckylife attempts to spam votekick/voteban on me, he won't be the first, or the last. I'll just report him to mana like I do all those idiots that votekick/voteban spam, qutie possibly getting Suckylife's donation priviledges removed (again, I think?) for abuse of them. Nevermind that the only time I've ever been kicked or banned in TF2 was when I intentionally ticked off mana enough during practice that HE was the one that kicked or banned me :P

tl;dr I win.

Bottom line, stickies on the point are a bad investment. It means you cant use it elsewhere. It means you aren't actively using the stickies on the front line. You invest in something that may or may not be needed. If you die, then you wasted the time of putting stickies on the point.

Your rank may go down if you are inactive, that is true. Too bad your shitty kdr and kpm doesnt. Who the hell has a 0.85 kdr? Thats below average. 0.59 kills per minute. Really? As a demoman?

You truly are stupid.

Buildings Destroyed: 7787

Kills: 18732

Deaths: 22084

Seeing as how you get points for numerous things, not just kills, you'd think you would add it all up and really see the truth.

FACT (and I know this from HOURS of playing with him): Dave is a sentry killer. He seeks out and destroys sentry guns. His kills are usually in the form of defenses, or merely fodder from when he kills things on his way to a sentry.

This is his #1 focus while playing... killing sentries.

Now... just adding up destructions and kills, you get 26519... in 22084 deaths.

1.2:1

Not bad.

Then there's assists... 2110 of those. Half a point for each. 1055 points.

Then there are the defenses... the point caps...

Point is, you are cherry picking your stats and pointing out the ones YOU think are important. Kills < All Other Things Combined

Either you know this to be true and are ignoring it so you can make your point and try to be right, while hoping no one calls you out on it. Or you are simply ignorant.

The former means you're pathetic, the latter means you're stupid.

Which is it?

PS: you also forgot to mention this is across all maps... some of which Dave rarely plays, or may have played only a few times. He plays Dustbowl and Goldrush, and that's about it... Dustbowl is probably 95% of his play time.

1.09:1 KDR on Dustbowl alone.

*sigh*

Stickies on the point is a good thing, because it prevents peopel from capping if you can use yoru stickies right. Not taht you'd know anythign about winning Suckylife.

blah blah, he gets sentry kills.

Most decent peoples KDR alone are more than his Kills + Buildings Destroyed + Assists ratio all combined (including me)so STFU newb . Not to mention, I have more buildings destroy than him too. There is more to TF2 than just seeking sentry guns. Like killing other people along the way. People who play the game with just one focus are stupid. You should always play based on you immediate threat and you have to gauge and play accordingly. The fatass has to recruit his fat younger brother to back him up on the forum.

Point is, you are cherry picking your stats and pointing out the ones YOU think are important. Kills < All Other Things Combined

Its not cherry picking if someones single attribute is better than all of your attributes combined. Obviously if someone's kills alone is greater than your kills + buildings destroyed + assists + captures. Then even if the other player has ZERO buildings destroyed, ZERO assists, and ZERO captures, they are still better than you! But guess what? FYI most people who are good at killing people are probably pretty good at killing buildings since THEY DONT MOVE. Since you know math, do you know what a correlation is? Do you know what an Rsqaure value is? Its pretty basic stuff here. FYI, most people who get more kills, probably also get a lot of captures. You cant really capture if the other team is alive on the cap point can you?

Strong argument for a retard living in Nebraska. I lived there for two years. The science teacher in my 5th grade didn't even know what evolution was. And some dude there told me the cure for AIDS was broccoli. Are you admiring my ad hominem attacks? I already proved my point in the first paragraph.

You should follow his example and get someone to help you out, because you're certainly not doing any good arguing for yourself. One could argue that I play the game with one focus-- I play spy. Sure, I occasionally switch to other classes, but I still play spy the most. That's my focus. and yet, I'm stupid because of this? Of course not, that'd be stupid (like you I suppose). Not everyone can, will, or wants to become a jack of all trades, and they aren't stupid for not attempting or wanting to be that. If someone is good at sniping, then let them snipe. If they are good at demo-ing, then let them blow shit up. If they are good at being a medic, then let them heal. Don't call them no-skill, because they're technicly MORE skilled than a jcak of all trades-- in their own specific field.

1. I'm talking about within a class. Single task focused vs aware of the entire situation and playing accordingly.

Single task oriented would be like:

a. Engineer who only build teleporters.

b. Spy who only saps buildings

c. Demoman who only targets buildings

Aware of the entire situation and adaptable:

a. Engineer who builds, fixes other engy's buildings, patrol, offensive and defensive

b. Spy who saps, backstabs, and caps.

c. Demoman who is at the front line, ubers with medic, but also aware whats going on behind him, including the cap point.

2. Playing only spy is not always a great idea. Some times an average player playing an efficient class easily beats an above average player playing an inefficient class. For example, an average Demoman on Dustbowl part 3 will do much much more than an above average Scout. Learn to find the right tool for the right job. If I'm going to dig a hole, I'm going to use something bigger than a spoon. Spy is good for capping the first point but not so great for the second point when the other team is compitent. This is because for the first point, its easy to get behind the other team where as for point 2, its much harder. Plus you have the risk of spending all that time walking to just to get burned by a pyro.
