+Henry Spencer 117 #1 Posted June 1, 2009 (edited) I heard a little while ago that instead of updating L4D anymore, Valve is simply coming out with L4D2. There was an article on RockPaperShotgun that /v/ was briefly all over... I got to read it before it mysteriously disappeared from the site: 4 new characters Coach - Coached a buncha little kids (obviously) Nick - conman, untrustworthy Couldn't remember the other 2. 5 new campaigns set in the Southern US. Campaigns follow one another and go from Savannah, GA to New Orleans, LA. Some stages will take place during the day. Some zombies will be in HazMat suits, so molotovs will no longer work on them. The old Specials will still be there, but probably different. New Special is called the Charger - Tank/common Infected cross-breed Can knock you around, but not incap/grab you and slam you into the ground until killed. Wandering Witch - during the daylight stages, the Witch will actively wander around instead of sitting in one spot. Director is getting an AI boost - can change weather settings, pathways, etc. New, updated guns Melee weapons - axe, bat, frying pan!, CHAINSAW!!! Zombies affected by what area you hit - chop off legs, chop off faces, etc. Gauntlet events - players face an endless swarm of zombies from the front, and have to reach a certain point to end the swarm New crescendo events - instead of opening a door and camping in a corner, players will have to work their way through an area to reach a cut-off point Ex. a narrow street full of alarmed cars I can't remember much else, but if this isn't some elaborate troll, we might actually have a GOOD zombie shootan game on our hands. Supposedly hitting stores and Steam on November 17th or 18th, can't remember which. Will add pics later if I can coax them out of /v/ EDIT 1: Official press statement: http://store.steampowered.com/news/2552/ EDIT 2: Found this, will confirm if real later: EDIT 3: Frying pan demo video from E3: http://uk.pc.ign.com/dor/objects/14352245/left-4-dead-2/videos/l4d2_gmp_fryingpan_052809.html There are other videos there of things like a crescendo event, fire ammo (?!), safe house, etc. Edited June 1, 2009 by Henry Spencer
Mana 3,867 #2 Posted June 1, 2009 Oh yes, LFD 2. As if LFD 1 was worth the 50 dollars Nket, KillerKeg and 3 others payed for me. Can't wait to see how they update their "innovative AI director" which picks random waypoints to spawn npcs on (reminds me of bots from pre-year 2000 era games). So alright... Valve cut most of what they promised for the original LFD but now instead of adding new maps as they promised before they make a new game which will probably sell at full price. Oh and perhaps they'll force you to buy LFD1 as well all the while making the game cost more seperately! Ya know... like with the Orange Box! EDIT: Gabe's post about it:

EDIT: Gabe's post about it: That's exactly how I am feeling right now. They promised to do what they did with TF2, and continually update the game. The other 2 campaigns for versus (which should have been included anyway from the start,) and a horrible survival mode are not awesome "updates" at all, like the ones TF2 has gotten. L4D still feels unfinished, and now I feel like I paid money to be a god damned beta tester so they could shove out L4D2.
Miyari 33 #4 Posted June 2, 2009 Looks like a big fat cop-out to me. They never finished making L4D worth the $50 I paid for it. Also, I'm not quite sure how the idea of playing a black chick shooting up zombies in downtown New Orleans appeals to me as someone who had to move to Texas because of Katrina. I know it's like LOLVIDEOGAME and I shoot people's brains out on a daily basis but it's still kinda weird, I guess. I can definitely say that L4D2 is not the most impressive thing to show up in the midst of E3.
boywonder03 2 #5 Posted June 2, 2009 Sounds like Valve is gettin' greedy on the Xbox-ness. Bill Gates probably wont let them release free content on there so they just went ahead and made "a whole new game" (aka an update). As with what everyone else is saying, I agree that this will probably cost full price and will not involve myself playing.
Mana 3,867 #6 Posted June 3, 2009 Why is it that Valve is obsessed with men and ugly women that look like men? Zoey was their best looking female character to date, and I've seen better female character in games (I'm not referring to those with huge boobs). Exhibit A: That THING looks nothing like the reference model they supposedly used Exhibit B: What do they all have in common? Ugliness. I rest my case. Oww My Nose 19 #7 Posted June 3, 2009 @mana not gna lie, i don't care too much, since i don't fap to games on topic: ya, pretty much the gayest thing ever. i'm hoping against hope that it'll be a free update to those who have l4d already... or have it for a reduced price (since it is just an update...) Krash 1,040 #8 Posted June 4, 2009 All this means is that they will slow down the class updates on TF2, which is unfortunate. Although L4D2 looks slightly promising. One of the things I like Valve for is they try different things. Only time will tell if they did something good.

Krash 1,040 #10 Posted June 9, 2009 I've seen about 4-5 remakes of that scene, what movie is it from? Also i watched some of those vids, the axe and incendiary ammo looks fun. It looks like L4D in its early stages, whcih isn't surprising. But it does look great. November 17th!

I know this because when everybody else choose sports stars and pop singers in middle school for biographies I choose Hitler instead. He did well at first and then failed horribly, I would of done things a lot differently myself (genocide never works, come on!). Anyway the movie is in German (as you might be able to tell). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downfall_(film)

Krash 1,040 #14 Posted June 10, 2009 At first i was liek But then i was liek Edit #1- I visited the wiki for L4D2 and got this information. The Characters Four new survivors will be introduced, with their backstory provided in a similar way to the original through dialogue in the game. The survivors include Coach, a high-school football coach; Rochelle, a reporter for a local cable company; Ellis, a boy mechanic; and Nick, a gambler and conman. The AI Director The AI Director will also be improved to reward players for taking longer or more difficult paths through each episode by providing more useful equipment, such as incendiary ammo, along these riskier paths,[2] and even alter elements of the levels to create varied paths based on the choice of these paths. All information borrowed from the wikipedia article which can be found here.
Graedus 9 #15 Posted June 14, 2009 The only thing that bothers me is flame bullets. Seriously, flame bullets? Why even bother being a tank anymore? I enjoy L4D even though I bought it 3 hours before it went on it's Valentine's Weekend 50% sale. ... ...Sigh. But really, 5 new campaigns seems a bit much even for Valve DLC. As long as both games are integrated so I don't have to load one or the other, I'll be ok. And Ellis is just the scout. They even used the bat sound effect in the trailer. Krash 1,040 #18 Posted June 16, 2009 The only thing that bothers me is flame bullets. Seriously, flame bullets? Why even bother being a tank anymore? Incendiary bullets? But i do agree with you about the failness with the tank. That was the one flaw with the mollys is that you have to get in throwing distance. Now you can stand half a map away and blast the shit out him?
+Henry Spencer 117 #19 Posted June 16, 2009 From the looks of the videos, the incendiary bullets don't actually do any damage, just light stuff on fire. Also, you only get enough for one magazine.

Graedus 9 #23 Posted July 21, 2009 http://xbox360.gamespy.com/xbox-360/left-4-dead-2/1005511p1.html Gamespy has a write up of one of the new campaigns. The levels sound interesting. Not sure how I feel about "The Spitter".
Victoreem the V of doom 30 #24 Posted July 21, 2009 spitter sounds like a good idea. valve wanted to change the way people played L4D1 and the spitter and charger are just perfect. they both can force the survivers out of the corner and actualy play the game. spitter = chewing tobacco good old valve thinking outside the box (not orange)
Graedus 9 #25 Posted July 21, 2009 (edited) Well they are down south...! I guess i'm just worried about the lifespan of a spitter. It won't ever have to see direct combat? Maybe if you kill one too close it's spit will get all over you and automatically damage you for X damage? We'll see! What other stereotypes can we think of? I like the idea of the uncommon infected for variety. Edited July 21, 2009 by Graedus
