I just sat in an achievement_idle server for about, maybe 30 hours total? No hats or anything, just duplicates.

I sure did take the high moral road, am I right?

Now I have one hat for each class though! A GAY LOOKING HALO!

Though I won't lie, it looks OKAY on a couple classes.

I wish they would have made it an actual halo though.

It seems Valve is returning a lot of items. I just got 1 of each of my missing weapons back that I earned through achievements. Hurray!

Yeah. Valve ran a script that checked your achievements for the milestone achievements and gave you your weapons back. Phantom got his Flare Gun back and practically everything I earned legitimately was returned (it's in lvl 1, 5, 7 10, 15 glory, tho ).

Not that I ever needed them. I was always planning to have the server give me all of them, one way or another. Now I can have 3 hats on at once! The halo, the party hat, and some other hat of my choice.

100% Agree. It is really amusing to see the people pissing and moaning about losing stuff they never earned in the first place. I do wish that they didn't give out those stupid halos, and instead put a target on the face of everyone who had idled, make it flashing during peak server hours.

Losing stuff we never earned? What? I dedicated valuable CPU cycles to getting hats, man. I want my cycles back.

On a slightly more serious note: If you didn't idle you either didn't care enough about the hats or ... just didn't care about the hats. There are a few hats that I would like to get. Valve never claimed that sitting on an idle server was against any sort of rules. Ergo, to increase the chance that I would get a hat, I idled. I only got a couple of hats, which were taken away. I'm okay with Valve saying, "Okay, idling is now against the rules, stop it." I would have stopped right there. I'm not really angry that I lost one of the demo hats and the retarded "Master's Yellow Belt." What I'm pissed at was losing items I had earned legitimately taken away from me because Valve arbitrarily decided that idling for something purely cosmetic, something that doesn't change gameplay at all, was suddenly against the rules without any sort of notice. Thankfully, they returned the legitimate items and increased the drop rate, albeit only by a factor of three, approximately. It's still an ass move that left many people in the community very much angry.

I could care less. I see it as a halo on my monitor, and others see it as "FAG" because they are just so damn butthurt over nothing. They got their achievement earned shit back. And most of them probably complained about the item drops in the first place so, they got what they wanted, NO ITEMS FROM THE DROP SYSTEM.

lol. I still have three hats. And I'm not butthurt. I'm just angry that Valve took away my legitimate items spontaneously, without warning, after implementing a poopsock-promoting drop system. The fact that Valve gave stupid hats to people who didn't idle, who didn't "cheat" (which, really, idling isn't cheating under Valve's rules before the update) is simply stupid.

Yep, you're butthurt Spartan. You didn't legitimately earn them, you idled for them. I don't give a shit about your CPU cycles or whatever other shit you want to pull out of your ass to justify it. You cheated and you got punished for it. Simple as that. The fact that you had to use an external program to do it is more than enough for them to declare your actions as cheating, and you know it-- just like, say, aimbotting. You used an external program to obtain something that you wouldn't otherwise have. Unless you're a complete and utter moron, you should have already known that at any given time that may be classified as cheating-- just like aimbotting. Maybe that's too harsh, but seriously-- you should have considered what exactly it was you were doing before you did it. But you didn't and what you didn't earn in the first place has been taken away from you.

Don't use moronic mods to take your frustration out on players who didn't cheat.

Point 1: Hats are useless. Cool, but useless.

Point 2: Unless specifically stated otherwise, nothing is cheating. That's how our legal system works and that's generally how rules in America work.

Point 3: Using a third-party program does not automatically constitute cheating. By that logic, my G15's macro program lets me cheat in EVE. I'd like to see CCP get rid of G15's, about half of their players would go ape. Using a program to connect to a server in a very similar fashion to the way I connect to a TF2 server and sitting on that server is almost exactly like sitting on a TF2 idle server. Only it frees memory because I don't have TF2 sitting in memory and taking up a bit of CPU. Once again, my main problem with Valve suddenly declaring that idling is cheating is that there was no warning. C'mon guys, randomly declaring something thousands of users are doing without knowing in any way shape or form that it was against any sort of rules cheating is pulling a fast one on the community. That tends to make people cranky, and cranky people don't buy video games from the devs that made them cranky.
