[MaGe]-Expo 0 #1 Posted July 8, 2008 How do you master hotkeys? I think hotkeys can help you become fast. But how can you memorize all important hotkeys and pressing them without looking on your keyboard?

[MaGe]-Expo 0 #5 Posted July 8, 2008 i use hotkeys. and i learned it through playing brbut i don use all hotkeys, for example the hotkeys for making a building, its useless... are you using real keyboard or game keyboard. I dont know if its worth buying the game keyboard.

cptheslayer 2 #7 Posted July 9, 2008 tell you the truth, if you manage your time well, you will have plenty of time to click on building icons to place them the way want to. For instance, First 2 peasants, press I once, then double right click to rice field immediately as you move your left hand to press alt or ctrl alt (this will make sure that your peasants will run). As your peasants run there, click on hut icon and place it near rice and water(hold shift to move the hut the way you like). you can then use shift alt to order your 2 peasants to build another hut or to get rice or water by using shift alt. This will make your peasants to do so right after they finish the hut. you see not time wasted here and you still got plenty extra time. To waste this extra time, you can press Tab, then click on Talk to all, and start talking (it is fun). Another example, if you want to build a keep, read your resources, just about your next return of your peasant(s) that gives you enough resources, then select your peasants and use shift alt to place the keep where you want it. So you can use hot key K or just click on Keep icon(not much different since you can do this fast while you got nothing to do anyway). More importantly, you need to know how to number your buildings and units by using shift+number(1-9). Lets says the way i do it is: early game: first hut = 4 first 2 peasants = 5 (also use 5 for any 2 peasants to easily build or get resources) First training building = 6 (usually chemist hut, if i got a tower and i need to use it i number the tower) Second Training building = 7 (usually the sharpshooter) Third training Building = 8 (usually tavern, but i dont normally number it if i got chemist and sharpshooter) BG's buildings = 9 (the one that i need most, if i make snipers, i number thieve guild 9, if i make blastshots i number metal...) Later game: Usually after i have upgraded all upgrades for my units 5 for peasants 4 for healers 6, 7 for towers 8 for keep 9 for BG's building 1 for mellee units 2 for range (musks, archers, ballistamen) 3 for range (cannons, keg cannons, hurlers) So you see that i do not use many hot keys; in fact i only use a few hot keys. I manage my time well so that i do not have to spend time on pressing hot keys. I plan of what i want to do with my resources, then i order my peasants to do multi tasks by using shift alt. This will save me save if i am engaged in a battle. when you are engaged in a battle, you dont want to spent time order your peasants to do something instead of controling your units in battle. ALso by numbering your buildings and uints, you can access them faster and more easily. That means you save time. Lets say, you go attack, you gain 2 yangs/yins, you want to upgrade, you just need to press the number of your building then click on upgrade. So you do not need to scroll to your building and select it. So you can micro your unit in battle while you upgrade. This helps you gain Yin/yang faster. For unit, you can do the same thing. One more thing, almost all players use mouse to scroll their screens. I also use the mouse to scroll the screen too, but i also use my scrolling keys(arrow keys). I changed my scrolling keys to a,s,d,w since i do not need these hot keys for upgrades. I use a,s,d,w because they are more convenient for my left hand. But the real reason is that they are close to ctrl alt shift tab F G C, numbers(1-9) and F1-F9. So my left hand does alot of pressing on these keys fast. Using asdw to scroll helps me alot. That is, I can just use my mouse to select certain unit to attack or retreat more efficiently. Also, if i want to scroll far, i use my mouse to click on mini map. I like this most because in battle, i want to use my mouse solely for micro my units instead of scrolling. with asdw in my left hand, i can scroll easily to see the most important part of the screen in battle. overall, i think you need not to know a lot of hot keys. As you can see, i only use 2 or 3 hots only. But i can still play fast too. Use shift alt ctrl keys. they are the most importants keys.
{{clan}}MeD 1 #8 Posted July 9, 2008 Nice, I didn't read all what you wrote but I have my word to say. Most of you are using groups for units (ctrl + f1, ctrl +f2, f1, f2....) But I think there is another easier way to select the all same units which is just double left cliking on one unit and you will select all the same units which are on your screen. Of course, groups may be better because Units don't have to be on your screen to be selected them but It's longer to add groups for each sort of unit...and if they lose their BG, you have to select the good ones to remake them having a BG. So, I never use groups numbers when I play. And I 've learnt this to epoX last time...hehehe lol. Another point, I don't use many hotkeys too, I just use maj + I at the begining, then maj + alt and f1, f2, f3....for BGs.
epoX{L} 0 #9 Posted July 9, 2008 Later game: Usually after i have upgraded all upgrades for my units 5 for peasants 4 for healers 6, 7 for towers 8 for keep 9 for BG's building 1 for mellee units 2 for range (musks, archers, ballistamen) 3 for range (cannons, keg cannons, hurlers) interesting... so I use 1 for mellee units 2 for range (musks, archers, ballistamen) 3 for healers 4 is the second mellee or range group 5 is the third mellee or range group 6 is for heroes 7 is for heroes 8 is for the BG building and 9 is for the keep i have no group for peasants

But in a battle where you are fighting with lots of units, it would take too much time to click on the unit type you want. And by groupin them, it is not hard to send them to get BG's. One tip: when your units get mugged, then disselect your units and reselect them. This will put your units in the order based on their bg's again so that you can use F1-F9

Even when using army u still use mouse except for buildings. And you keep clicking same stuff over and over again which i think is useless because you already click the army or peasant and u keep clicking it for same command...maybe you are just hyper..What key do you press so that peasants would ignore attack while buidling...Ive seen some people do it...Where can we find BR manual anyways? I just love to keep clicking. There is nothing wrong about it. That key you're talking about, I know someone will tell you. While I play on the video, you won't see most hot keys I'm using, however, I still love to click and click, it's fun Do you do that? (: I'm different (: Here are all the keys I use in the Sword Rush Video... I - Calling peasants in the beginign of the Game P - Getting a peasant hut Shift + Alt + Control - Getting my peasant to the area of building Control + Shift + T - Getting a Tavern Shift + Alt + Control - Getting my peasant back to water (I get water first in sword rush) Most of the time, using Shift + Alt + Control Click on Tavern and press Control + 6 (Do this to the alternate Tavern with Control + 7 ) Now I have numbered my two buildings. When have my first yin, I press 7 and A ~ Only people using this would know what is this. My screen on my rice field, I press Control + Number 1 (To save my screen location) My screen on where I rally my swordmen, I press Control + Number 2 (To save my screen location) I press M when I heard the attack sounds. I press TAB to select Chatting to ALL I press control A to select all units on the screen I hold control + shift to select the same units on the screen. I use Shift + 3 to number my swordmen, and pressing 3 to select them later. I press O to make my swordmen rest. I press S to make instant stop but defend, (Sometimes I press N, mostly N I use with range units) I think that's all I use so far in just a simple rush game. In the 147 keys I'm talking about, I includes all the shortcut BR has. Yes, I memorize all BR shortcut. If you can't get to 147 keys, probably you don't include Control + 1 ;Control + 2; or Shift + 1; Shift + 2; Or press F1 to F12. Yeah, I forget to tell you, My BR has F11 and F12 Shortcut I made it (: If you're lazy to read my post, you won't get the answer to your questions. The key that I'm using to keep my peasant building while under attack is SHIFT. Just do the same as RICE SHIFT. I was wondring it it was the HOT keys that made Melkor the very best player he was. I heard he beated darky + 2 other good player vs him and just 1 guy. I played with darky before and team with him against lighty and tashiro. Dakry was by himslef fighting those 2 guys and he was winnig. Just imagine how good melkor was if darky was that good and he was no match to melkor.
IndominusRex 13 #14 Posted July 10, 2008 Here's a little piece of BR History (PLAYERS) Yes, you are right. Melkor knows all the shortcut as I do. But Melk never turns his building. He's just lazy to turn his building haha (: I remember being in his clan, it's call {GOD}, melkor's name in this clan was {GOD}melkor, and he was the leader of this clan together with one of the very good GERMAN player, he quits already. And my name was something like {GOD}SniperBoy Haha, I really for get, I use name like SerpentBoy too (: Then melk lose to EmpressTashiro one day in 1v1 (Serpent vs Serpent) Then the rematch game, melk win (Wolf vs Serpent) We know that Tash always use Serpent. Melk rush hurlers on Tash while she was doing musk rush on him. That time Tash change her name to PrincessTashiro. Then both of them team together. Almost unbeatable. (THat time WOTW just came out lol) Tash was teaching melk a lot on using serpents, and then melk teach Tash using Wolf, but she just said "THANKS" she only play serpent lol... epoX{L} 0 #15 Posted July 10, 2008 But Melk never turns his building. He's just lazy to turn his building haha (: alone that would make him weak... I don know, why do humans like their past more than their future?
{{clan}}MeD 1 #16 Posted July 11, 2008 As what i hear, and as what I heard, Melkor was certainly not weak. Turning buildings is how not important in games...He can't be weak just because he doesn't turn it. If you mean building structure, then only the place of towers are important and crucial. The rest doesn't matter. They like their past more than their future because their future is the death.
IndominusRex 13 #17 Posted July 11, 2008 (edited) EpoX, melk probably can kille you in easily without turning his building. That is just my opion from my observation of playing you and him. cptheslayer 2 #19 Posted July 12, 2008 so i would guess that melkor often defends first, then counter attack. if you know, defender often wins games if the defender knows what to do.
IndominusRex 13 #20 Posted July 19, 2008 (edited) Haha there is rumors that he have no fog in his map. Hehe, I wasn't a noob when I was playing him, that time was like I think 2006 Feburary or March. That time I was playing for like almost 5 or 6 years already. NOt sure but average to the time that when Baxter still new and CP average player. marcelo_20xx 17 #24 Posted July 20, 2008 Haha there is rumors that he have no fog in his map Hmmm...thats interesting, maybe that was true, I dont know I never know him anyway, but there IS a way to have disabled the FOG of your game without desync anything though that information could ruin your tournaments so beware... IndominusRex 13 #25 Posted July 20, 2008 (edited) wow if you didnt need a mouse to move units and know all hotkeys then players can pretty much play with just a keyboard Unfortunately, I dont know how to do that, I just said I play mostly with a keyboard but the majority of my control is with a mouse. Ordering units and placing buiding is what I use with the most mostly. Hmmm...thats interesting, maybe that was true, I dont know I never know him anyway, but there IS a way to have disabled the FOG of your game without desync anything though that information could ruin your tournaments so beware... I have no doubt about this, haha, If I know, I would have that haha! Anyway, playing with shortcut doesn't mean that you will be faster. To be fast, you have to press the keyboard fast while knowing the shortcut. I have uploaded this video to show all of you how I use my keyboard with shortcuts. I know most of you know the keys, but I am talking a about the speed of using a keyboard... Please understand that this video is for learning purpose and not for showing off what I have know.
