TIKI - ikislma 19 #1 Posted March 7, 2013 Not sure if this is a glitch, hack or script, but I've seen players who give the appearance of being in civilian mode while still maintaining the ability to fire their weapons. This gives them the distinct advantage in that the opposing players have no idea what weapon they've selected. I've heard many people opine that it's not cheating, just a humorous way to play the game. Some guy was doing it tonight and appeared to playing legit otherwise. Is there an official stance on this? I've seen this as well, annoying as fuck, but when i see it, usually I assume it's only me seeing the person that way, as nobody else seems to have the problem, I've always thought it was more or less a glitch Are talking about TF2 or COD? whaaaaaaat? Chez-Box 3,240 #6 Posted March 7, 2013 Civilian mode? civi mode... you've for sure seen it, when the character model is just standing upright, arms at their side, they move around without moving their legs, etc.

Why would people call it civilian mode? That is what made me think of COD or some bullshit like that.
Computer 588 #8 Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) civi mode... you've for sure seen it, when the character model is just standing upright, arms at their side, they move around without moving their legs, etc. Chez-Box explained it well. I've talked with Krash about this and he said that it's not bannable, unless a person is convincing everybody on the server become a civilian. When they've put themselves in this mode, they don't have the upper-hand. They simply just look different. They still fight the exact same way, except that their body doesn't appear to be in motion. TIKI - ikislma 19 #9 Posted March 7, 2013 Okay I tried to link to a youtube video but it won't let me for some reason. Just google it and you can see what it looks like. ACG, I know you're just passing on what Crash said, but do you think it might give someone the advantage when you can't see what weapon their using until they've already used it on you? It's not a major issue, but it still seems to be a little unfair to me. Also, if a heavy is standing still you have no idea if their gun is spun up or not. Computer 588 #10 Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) I haven't really thought of it from that angle before. You have a good point, but 99% of the time whatever the staff says is final. Edited March 7, 2013 by AverageComputerGuy

Ruby 9,039 #12 Posted March 7, 2013 Vagsie, it's called after an unused 10th class which was planned for a TF2 gamemode but scrapped mid-development. You can read more about it here: http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Civilian#The_reference_pose Edit: Derp, you posted the link already. Never mind, I should read more carefully

Krash 1,040 #15 Posted March 7, 2013 It is annoying, it is a glitch. But its not game destroying, which is what most of our bannable exploits are. So we find ourselves in a gray area here.... Which generally just by default the decision goes to the server populace. If yall dont dig it, get him out.

Hardly, the hit box is not the same as if the person was in regular mode.
Asjo 90 #17 Posted March 7, 2013 I didn't know there was anything called "civilian-mode". As far as I have experieced this, it's someone stuck in a high five stance (a bug - people don't know why it happens when I ask them), and it's only me experiencing it, not everyone. If I reconnect to the server, it's fine. It's damn hard to fight someone when you have no idea what they're doing or how they're moving. If someone did this on purpose, of course it's bannable, since it's very abusive, makes playing less enjoyable for everyone, and gains a significant advantage. Nano 7,892 #18 Posted March 7, 2013 I warn people to stop and then kick if they don't. I would issue a temp ban if someone kept coming back. It is unfair. You don't know what weapon they have and you can't see if they are going to shoot. Might sound small, but those kinds of details can be a big deal.
Reisen 1,973 #19 Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) I have never fucking heard of that shit before. Why would people call it civilian mode? That is what made me think of COD or some bullshit like that. It's Civilian Mode because you usually can't fire weapons during it. The thing is, if you play Soldier, and equip yourself with shotgun and turn on the option to equip the weapon you used last once you respawn, the game forces the secondary slot on the Soldier. so if you switch to Gunboats, the game forces the secondary slot on you, but since you don't have any weapon to use you stay in so called civilian mode, which "usually" unarms you so you're not really fighting, thus civil. About the Highfive thing: If someone uses Highfive before the round ends and the next round starts (it must be in the right timing) there is a chance to be stuck in the Highfive Animation. However you still walk. But i think not true that you can't see their weapon. If a Spy does it, he holds his revolver in the Hand he rises up. So does everyone else i guess. but might be wrong of me Edited March 7, 2013 by Misa-chan ♥
Vaginal Hubris 2,659 #20 Posted March 7, 2013 Did I not say I read about civilian mode? I think I made that clear yet people keep posting to me about it. Thanks, but I read it.

Civi's are in the same list as Tele-trapping or building a Tele on a health/ammo pack. It's a nice way to get kicked, and maybe even temp banned, as pro said. Barbaro 466 #22 Posted March 7, 2013 Looks like Griefing to meh, some people do it and just run around, annoying their teammates. Some can shoot, others can't. I ask em once to knock it off, they don't, they get the boot. It's unfair for their teammates and enemy.
