Skaruts 14 #1 Posted March 12, 2013 I was wondering, since you guys have so many servers, have you ever considered sparing a few to a no-crits gameplay? I must make it clear though, that by no-crits I still mean vanilla, only without random crits. Not like most no-crits servers (or, at least, ALL that I tried) that also have no-respawn-time and a few other bs nonsense that in turn unbalances the game just as much as crits do. I would certainly be one to play in these servers exclusively, for I value fair play above all, and totally despise random handicaps such as that.

Ruby 9,039 #5 Posted March 12, 2013 I've always been in favour of "votecrit" or something which would make the next round without random crits, if vote passes. The fact that servers die with nocrit tag is not true - for example, 5 RUGC servers (Reddit unofficial gaming community) are still full every night with top level gameplay for a pub - however for Lotus it would definitely mean a drop in players from quickplay.

A world without random critZ, yeah, that'd be nice... but as also mentioned above, the servers would stay empty.
Reisen 1,973 #7 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) Random Crits are Bullshit. I get crits 1x in a hour of gaming. and 3/4 i get killed by random crits. It was a brilliant idea of valve to make a game based on lucky hits that kill almost everything in a hit. I even main pyro now because tf2 isn't funny with crits anymore. so i can at least reflect crit rockets and stickys. For whatever reason, Once i show up on the battlefield, all enemies get random crits all over and i die instantly. so ofc, i use "no random crit" weapons, since i don't get crits anyway. I see Blackbox Soldiers spamming crit rockets all over. But me as a Demoman that fires 20 nades gets MAYBE 1 random crit nade. and then it's the nade that completely misses and hits nothing lol Well TF2 was never fair to me anyway. I have 1 day in the year when everything works perfect, and that was on last Thursday, when i found 2 Hats and 1 Paint can and crafted cool Items for once. It would be better to have more "deserved" crits in TF2, like for Manmelter, Headshots and so on. Not always those "Your spam will be rewarded" crits Edited March 12, 2013 by Misa-chan ♥
Jabberwock 273 #8 Posted March 12, 2013 As a demoknight, I never rely on random crits anyway. To each their own.
bukowski 1,203 #9 Posted March 12, 2013 I hate getting hit with a random crit and I always end up calling "bullshit" in my head, but I love randomly launching a crit into a group of people and getting a triple kill because of it. Double edged sword I guess.

Reisen 1,973 #12 Posted March 12, 2013 The more damage you do, the greater the chance of gaining crits Still a low proc chance http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Critical_hits There's times where I've gone without a single crit in hours, or like yesterday and have all 6 shells in my shotgun crit at once I kill 10 people and deal pooptons of damage. still no crits. Random crits suck, general luck based things in videogames don't work for me. In Fire Emblem, i miss with 98% Hitrate and the enemy afterwards crits me with 1% Crit. Kitten 1,813 #13 Posted March 12, 2013 It's damage done in the previous 20 seconds that effects your crit chance. Sometimes I wish there weren't random crits so they'd all belong to me... but I actually enjoy the added unpredictability.

Ruby 9,039 #15 Posted March 12, 2013 No matter if 20 seconds past or not. i have the same crit chances like always, 0.000001%No, please, for the love of Mana, Se7en and everything that is holy to you, do NOT fuck up maths. You are running the same code as we all are, so you get the same crit chance as everyone else. you just do not perceive it. Grab a pen and paper and just make a tick every time you crit, and you'll see that you do have more than one in a million crit rate. The crits are added as a balance point to allow newer players to randomly perform better against skilled players, and to, in words of a developer, "make sure that the times when a player goes on to a killstreak make an unforgettable gaming experience." Which might be true - I don't remember all 1200something kills on my strange rocket launcher but I do remember the time when I wiped the entire point by myself and then finished it off with a crit on a Heavy.

Skaruts 14 #25 Posted March 13, 2013 This topic shows up about once a month. It has been answered many times. Do a search for "Random crits". Sorry about that. I don't come here a lot so I wouldn't know, and didn't think about it. TF2 vanilla is with crits enabled, disabling them removes the server from quickplay and subsequently leads to the server dying. That sounds like a problem and a good reason why (good) servers don't have it... kind of Valve Stupidity at work there, I guess? But still, is anyone really using quick play at all? I mean, it's complete bollocks. I've used it a couple of times in TF2, and a couple of times in every other game that has it, only to always find out it sucks tremendously. It never places me in servers close to my location, for one. I figured everyone else would take a good old smelly dump on that feature like I did... It's damage done in the previous 20 seconds that effects your crit chance. I have heard that before, and I still don't notice anything like that when playing. But it's still random luck, it still disgusts me, and it still randomly destroys fair play and strategic planning. And if the chance of criting raises with being successful, it disgusts me even more... Random Crits are Bullshit. I get crits 1x in a hour of gaming. and 3/4 i get killed by random crits. You're up against 12 or 16 other players who also have the same chance of criting you, but the sad fact is that it's much like you rolling the dice once against the enemy, and the enemy rolling the dice multiple times against you.
