Tf2, The Game That Keeps Giving...me More Things I Have To Master

Recommended Posts

I'm pocket soldier for a 6's noob team and we're getting ready for a competition so I have to learn what to do...things I am currently working on, as I have a lot to learn (apparently I have been doing god knows what the last 750+ hours ;-) )...

- understanding names for map locations

- understanding maps strategically for 6's

- learning to know when we are out of position or in a position to push

- getting to know how my team mates play style

- using unfamiliar weapons (seriously, I regularly started using the shotgun three weeks ago)

- recognising basic tricks/ambushes/deceptions played by opposing team

- rocket jumping (no, properly)

- wall jumping

- flick jumping

- water jumping

- syncronising rockets

- MGE practice (dualling)

- airshots

- how could I forget my rollout tongue.png

oh yeah and don't let the medic die

Seriously WTF!! smile.png

And don't forget to take a break every once in a while to let things sink in and so you can just get a little bit of a breather.

Just pm me if you need anything :)

Don't worry Fever, most of that stuff will come with experience and practice. I've got so much to learn as medic I don't even know where to begin! =p

I just wanted to get better at playing soldier so I, too, am practicing these tactics.

I have found a few guides that have helped me to understand the mechanics of better play styles. The organics are coming slowly but surely.

Here are the guides I found to be helpful:

http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Soldier_%28competitive%29

This is your basic guide. It tells you basic information and should be used more as a reference.

This video is a little annoying to watch, but it contains some amazingly helpful advice on the programming pieces of playing soldier.

This video is very dry, but contains so much information it's worth a second or third watch.

http://www.tfportal.de/?30

This guide is great for learning to engage every class as well as a few pointers on how to maximize your play style.

In all honesty though, just playing Soldier is the best way to learn. Find your niche and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!

Well, got more than 2.000 hours on TF2 and I can say.. I did watch some videos of "how to get better" but the best you can do is train and practice everyday.

I thought my regular "50 hours in the past two weeks" was reasonable for someone working...until I saw Tristan's 100+ hours :D

Thanks for all of your offers of help too, I'm constantly surprised by how helpful people are outside of Lotus too. It's a great community...we just need less spies and snipers ;-)

In all fairness spies are much more tolerable with the dead ringer nerf which really knocked it down in usefullness to something fairer.

This game besides giving, also demands a lot.

...like money.
