Spy disguise

Saying that, yesterday I did probably the best stab I have ever done. A pyro saw me and I knew was going to chase me around a corner. So I waited a bit, and strafed around him, as he shot his flames whilst turning where he thought I was, and I stabbed him, it felt so good. One of my main reasons for wanting to be a good spy is to hunt pyros.

Good thinking, but the reason why they don't is because a Scout moves at 133% speed, while the Spy stays at 100%, making people know it's a Spy from a mile away.

 

disguise as scout, check enemys position, and backpaddle + jump right into them. you'd be surprised how many ppl get fooled by a backpaddlin + jumping scout =)

I think for awhile you would speed up as spy to match the speed as whatever class your playing. I remember awhile ago (like in June) where I thought I would speed up to the scouts speed.

the more you run with eyes on your enemies, the more suspicious you are.

it's awesome how often spychecked you get while you think" what the heck, I acted perfectly"; because ppl tend to "uuuh he's moving normal, that's a spy, I have to check, wait a sec.."

 

 

and it's really SAD how often you get away with stupid stuff like: "watch me, I am a noob, I am a scout, I walk crouching" or "I stand still, and just watch the roof / the wall / the ground"

your team will most likely be "uuh that's a team m8, maybe he's typing in chat. I'll even have to protect him, I'll turn my back on him"

I rarely play Spy, but my most successful disguises were Spy and Medic, followed by Demoman wielding stickylaucher (you don't expect them to shoot at you as they've laid some stickies already).

one thing i forgot to add that nano just reminded me about - a little tip i use that works 95% of the time is the good ol' telefrag.

 

LOL...I'm amazed to read this works so often...not getting telefragged is like day two of learning to be an engie isn't it? XD

 

If it works though fair play.  There must be a lot of bad engies out there.

you'd be surprised how often it works! you can tell a bad engi by their sentry placement normally

I think the major issue is treated any class in one way, or in other words, playing it one way. Come to think about it, sometimes disguises work or dont, either that you made a mistake or via the multitude of paranoid spychecking etc. I remember on a server with this guy who was well being an absolute arse to a kid, he had a pocket medic, and kept coming into our base with uber etc. He was in the sewers of two forts, I decided to take some pot shots from our stairs at him, but noticed he had no medic, so I ran around with the dead ringer, got killed, jumped into the water, disguised as his medic, and walked up to him as if to heal him, he basically offered his back. It felt so good to stab the jerk. The disguise isn't important, it is how you go about it, what is needed. I know I have a huge huge way to go, but I want to, it is worth it. I have a tendency of playing spy just using the gun and knife, no disguises or cloak, obviously will die, but I want the pressure to push myself. I use the eternal reward, because my god, it can be really effective in chain stabbing. At the end of the day, we can talk statistics, what disguise is better, etc, when it comes down to it. You have to be able to stab effectively and shoot well. Without good aim, doesn't matter the weapon. I have bad aim, and bad awareness, so I need to improve these much more greatly than disguising etc. 

 

 

DB, you shouldnt feel sorry, it is good practice. I remember my English teacher saying, aim for an A grade, as, if you don't get it, you will likely get at least a C and therefore pass. Aiming high, or putting a ton of pressure on yourself that my seem impossible to do etc, can be useful, as long as you know that it is okay if you dont reach your goal, the effort in trying too, will benefit you much more. I know playing without cloak and disguises will end up with me dying over and over and over again, and frowning etc, but, giving up would be worse, imagine if I could eventually learn to play it well, with cloak I would then be a beast. ;P

The best Spy is one who is never seen. I love playing Pyro against DR spies, as I can always see them coming. Flame them, and even if they are using spycicle, 99% of the time I know where they`re headed because I know where the ammo is located. 

 

I played some matches as Pyro against Stabby Stabby, and learned a lot. He managed to jump-stab me off an incline so tiny I didn`t even think to see it coming. Now when I see a Spy start to jump for a stair-stab, I airblast instead of flaming. So anger, much burn, very ragequit. Wow.

 

Same for matador stabs. Awptimus was always a fan of those at practices when he was around as a Recruit, and so I would airblast him out of position and make him miss before sending his burning ass back to the pits of hell from which all Spies are spawned. 

 

Some of the most challenging spies to play against run with Ambassador and Invis-watch. As a Pyro, it`s hard to get close enough to them to flame, and flares are slow so they can dodge. I`m more likely to just let them go than to chase them as they back-pedal and headshot me to death.

 

It doesn`t matter what disguise you use, it`s only good as long as people don`t pay attention to you. Better to not be seen at all than to rely on the disguise to get you through.

 

If you can`t be unseen and are playing against bad players, try luring them to a place where you can trickstab them. Up stairs/ramps, around corners, into water, etc.

Fastest way to get better is to play against good opponents. I am not the best Pyro, but I`m a good Spy-hunter, so, as I said, if you want to play a bit, let me know.

My favourite class is Spy too .

 

I usually use Sniper disguise , or Engineer or Demoman , theese are the most importants i think. As Sniper is good because you can get in their territory (Depends what cloak are u using for that i highly recomand CnD), and after no one is near you , you can go and backstabb some guys.  After just going to another place and wait for them.

 

As Engineer - 

Let's see an example what's in my head when i meet an engineer "I want their sentries".

 

So i just disguise as an engineer fastly kill the engineer , sapp the sentry ( or vice versa -> Sap the sentry after kill the engineer) . And once you are ready you can go for example Sniper and find a good place and opportunity to strike !

 

As demoman . Demomans are powerfull characters , what means they like to play agressive . I use this disguise more to alert my teammates , or to find ways to kill their medics , Heavys etc. 

 

Ok so i don't tell i'm the best spy in world . I am playing with spy from 4-5 months .

 

So most important for a spy is timing , and strategy . You can use disguises what u want ( without scout) but you need a tactic. 

 

Let's take an Example : You are disguise as a Pyro and you go near your enemies , after you see them one near one and you think to strike . But it isn't so simple because you need to wait for them getting positions.

The only problem I ever found with disguising as a demoman is that your speed is reduced. Demos run slightly slower than spies, which can be a hindrance.

I don't know when i'm disguise as a demoman no one see that slower speed. Otherway all disguise has their importance ( without haevy , scout , medic I think).

You do realize cactus is consistently #1 engineer on any server with stats he frequents .
