AvocadoCake 0 #1 Posted July 23, 2014 Hello, I had gotten banned because of a name-stealer. This was about 1-2 months ago? I am not sure. Anyways, I just shrugged it off for the time being. What really annoys me is how people don't use the "status" command before vote-banning/ban a suspecting hacker. Summary of what happened: 1. I joined the server with a hacker already in it. 2. The hacker steals my name. 3. Someone initiates a vote-ban on my name. 4. Instead of the hacker getting banned, I get banned. Here is my ID: STEAM_0:0:17485929 I don't have a screenshot of the incident. I hope I get this cleared up soon.
Ruby 9,039 #2 Posted July 23, 2014 Votebans aren't permanent. However your ban was placed by one of our admins. I'll talk to the admin who placed the ban, review the evidence and get back to you.
luop90 4,400 #3 Posted July 23, 2014 Ah yes, I had to look to find this, but it was a SourceMod error that caused you to be banned, instead of the hacker. Because of the way the namechange hacked worked, it made the @aim command target the incorrect player. Essentially, SourceMod identified you as "coolawesomekitty", and therefor banned you before the other hacker. When the first ban was made (that targeted you incorrectly), I thought SourceMod actually pulled an error and didn't kick or ban anyone, mainly because the player I was spectating (which the @aim command uses as the target) wasn't removed from the server. I posted a thread about this in the admin lounge thinking it was another hack that somehow avoided SourceMod, but as it turns out, it just targeted the wrong person. (For admins, that thread can be found here.) As for a public note, here's the video of the demo I made back in March when the ban was made-
