Domino 3,168 #1 Posted November 4, 2014 So each Friday I get boxs of food delivered (from http://www.abelandcole.co.uk/) to my door containing a random selection of meat, veg and fruit, I can add stuff to it if I like, or skip foods I don't like. I'm trying to not skip anything (but I really hate parsnips). I decided to start doing this in order to firstly, learn to cook more foods, and to help myself beat my issues with eating. It was requested by a few people that I post it up on the forums so they can learn to cook too, I will do Fridays one from memory, but starting this week I will write up properly what I do so people can repeat it if they want to. I'm also open to suggestions for each of my boxes of what people think I should cook. Thing I've loved most so far is the flavour of the carrots. They were completely awesome. All the fruit and veg is organic, it supports the farmers who grow it, all the meat is high welfare and the company strives for environmental protection by having set delivery days for set areas - also means delivery is only just over £1. Friday 31st October Box contained: 6 Apples, 4 Bananas, 6 Clementines 3 White Onions, 7 Potatoes 5 Carrots, 6 Mushrooms, 2 large Courgettes 500g of beef mince, Two large lamb chops, 6 Pork and Apple sausages I cook for both myself and my brother normally. On Friday I removed all the fat from the lamb, and cut it up into cubes, fried it for a few minutes to half cook it. While that was cooking, I cut the smallest courgette, a carrot, an onion, and a potato (peeling the carrot and potato first) into slices, and chucked the whole lot with some oil into some baking trays. Slapped the whole thing into the oven for 30 minutes at 170 and had roasted veg, potato slices and lamb. On Saturday I was away at my parents, so did no cooking. On Sunday: Items remaining (ignoring the fruit as I just ate them slowly in the evenings): 2 White Onions, 6 Potatoes 4 Carrots, 6 Mushrooms, 1 large Courgette 500g of beef mince, 6 Pork and Apple sausages I diced an onion and stuck it in the frying pan, along with the mince, and fried it for a few minutes. I cut up the carrots into small cubes about 0.75cm square, and throw those in with slices of mushroom and courgette. I added in a can of tomatoes (it was literally an 18p savers can) and my brother had a packet of powder for making a bolognese sauce so I threw that in too. I let the whole thing simmer on the hob for about 30 mins (basically just waited til the carrots were soft). On the Sunday I cooked some spaghetti and threw half the mix with 150g of spaghetti to make dinner for 2. I fridged the other half. Monday night I had planned on doing the other half of the sauce with rice, but I loved the spag bol so much I threw another 150g of spag into a pot and had a really quick and easy dinner Monday night. Tuesday: Items remaining (ignoring the fruit as I just ate them slowly in the evenings): 1 White Onion, 6 Potatoes 6 Pork and Apple sausages I pricked and threw the sausages into the oven at 190, then peeled the potatoes and cut them into chunks, threw them in the microwave for about 14 minutes. I diced the onion and threw that into a frying pan til it was slightly golden, and soft. I had some peas in the freezer, so popped them into a saucepan. I added about a heaped tablespoon of butter to the mash, and began beating the crap out of it, adding milk til it turned into mashed potato, then piled up mashed potato, stuck the sausages into it, made some gravy and poured it onto the mash, and added peas. I didnt take pics before... and I'm pretty sure you dont wanna see an empty bowl - but it was very tasty. So from that lot I made two roast(ish) dinners, enough bolognese sauce for 4 meals, and two meals of bangers and mash. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This Friday (7th) I am going to be getting: Apples, Bananas, Kiwis Leeks, Potatoes, Pepper, Onions (I also had spinach but I've opted to do a replacement on this item so I'm not sure what else I will get) I have added mushrooms and Carrots to my order My meat box contains: Chicken breast fillets Gammon Steaks Lamb mince I have added a selection of wild fish, smoked fish and salmon to my order I intend to cook gammon and pineapple for one meal, a fish pie, and make a chicken casserole. I will probably freeze the mince and make another bolognese type sauce the week after. I will update this thread over the weekend with some more details about what I did, and I'll include some pictures of the inbetween so you actually stand a chance of repeating it XD ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Friday 14th box contains: Pears, Clementines, Bananas Beetroot, Carrots, Parsnips , Potatoes, Winter Greens I am slightly scared of this box, as I've never cooked with beetroot, parsnips or winter greens before. So this week cos parsnips are gross I had a replacement, as well as the beetroot and I ended up with: Red onions, carrots, winter greens, chinese leaf, and potatoes. And they threw in a free clove of garlic. I didn't get a meat box this week, so I'm working with lamb mince from last week. With chinese leaf being a type of cabbage, and the winter greens being leaves anyway, I will probably shred the lot up, and add it to whatever I cook - which to be fair will probably consist of throwing oil, mince, onion and garlic into a pan, fry it up, add in the carrots, then throw in the shredded leaves towards the end with a can of tomatoes. Mash the potatoes and stick half the sauce in a pot with the potatoes, and either freeze the other half or have it with spag on Sunday XD If I don't go totally brain dead again this week ill take some pics. Friday 21st November: Bananas, Oranges and Apples Mushrooms, Kale, Pepper, Onions and Potatoes This week I've opted out of the meat box as I wasnt a fan of one of the items in it. I think I'm going to get myself a cougette and do some roasted veg with roast potatoes and chicken wrapped in bacon this week. It's a nice simple easy to do meal. This will probably be sunday night as my brother is away over the weekend and I cant be arsed to cook for just me. I might get a packet of ham and do some ham and mushroom pasta for myself on Saturday night.

(look up how to deglaze when using meat) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deglazing_%28cooking%29 XD I love my spag bol quite dry tbh. I drain the can of tomatoes quite a lot before hand and let the spag soak the rest
