--- 691 #27 Posted November 7, 2014 I misread quite a few things in this thread. I thought Domino was cooking mice in her original post, and then giving away "fruit and vag".

Domino 3,168 #31 Posted November 14, 2014 So this week cos parsnips are gross I had a replacement, and I ended up with: Red onions, carrots, winter greens, chinese leaf, and potatoes. And they threw in a free clove of garlic. I didn't get a meat box this week, so I'm working with lamb mince from last week. With chinese leaf being a type of cabbage, and the winter greens being leaves anyway, I will probably shred the lot up, and add it to whatever I cook - which to be fair will probably consist of throwing oil, mince, onion and garlic into a pan, fry it up, add in the carrots, then throw in the shredded leaves towards the end with a can of tomatoes. Mash the potatoes and stick half the sauce in a pot with the potatoes, and either freeze the other half or have it with spag on Sunday XD If I don't go totally brain dead again this week ill take some pics.

Domino 3,168 #35 Posted November 18, 2014 That looks fucking good. Could have done with swapping out winter greens for courgette. But I swear, with the mash and onion gravy, it was heaven.

Domino 3,168 #39 Posted November 19, 2014 Two foods I hate most in this world are parsnips and honey. *vomits* I'd rather eat cardboard. And I have. Well on a serious note, I'm starting to really love this place. This is my 4th week. They gave me a choice of £6 off a meat box, £4 off a whole chicken or £5 off £10 or more of fresh fish. I took the meat box and ran. As you may also recall, my 4th weeks veg box is free so........ I get: 4 Chicken thighs 2 Gammon steaks 450g of Stewing steak Mushrooms Kale Potatoes Pepper Onions Apples Bananas Oranges For £8.25 - including delivery And they are adding a free mince pie too. The fuck is wrong with these people - and this is all high welfare meat, free range, organic etc. Next week I get £10 off my order. It's crazy good value. Not to mention they've already given me about £35 of free crap. Edit - added a entire roast chicken (£4 off voucher), £11 worth of fish (£5 off voucher) and and some milk to my order... So that's: 1.5kg chicken 900g of fish 4 Chicken thighs 2 Gammon steaks 450g of Stewing steak 1/2 pint of milk Mushrooms Kale Potatoes Pepper Onions Apples Bananas Oranges Mince Pie For £20 including delivery. Seriously.. what?? The chicken and fish pie mix from sainsburys is £17 alone.
fever 9,884 #40 Posted November 20, 2014 It's amazing that you can get half a carrier bag of stuff from your local butchers/greengrocers for a few quid compared with a plastic container containing a single product from the supermarket.
Domino 3,168 #42 Posted November 22, 2014 So that's: 1.5kg chicken 900g of fish 4 Chicken thighs 2 Gammon steaks 450g of Stewing steak 1/2 pint of milk Mushrooms Kale Potatoes Pepper Onions Apples Bananas Oranges Mince Pie Well I ate the mince pie, so that's gone. I got a free lemon, so I removed the giblets from the chicken, filled it with lemon quarters and roasted that bad boy (my first roast chicken ever - whole anyway) - rubbed herbs and butter on his belly, and cooked him for half the time upside down, and then half right side up to get him nice and crispy. Cut up the pepper, one of the onions and the mushrooms, roasted those, some potato and boiled some kale in minty water, and boom: Took a pic of my brothers cos I started eating mine before I remembered pic. Next time ill get a pic of the whole chicken too. Tomorrow I'm cooking the gammon and doing gammon chips beans and maybe fried egg. Monday I'm gunna use the potato, fish, and kale to make a fish pie. Steak and Thighs are in the freezer for another time. Once I've made things a few times, I'll start writing up recipes for stuff.

Domino 3,168 #44 Posted November 29, 2014 Started with sausages, purple carrots and chard. + some other stuff i had already. Used my new garlic crusher to crush the shit out of some garlic. I used 3 cloves. Fried it in some oil with a large diced onion til it was golden brown and soft. Cut the 6 pork and leek sausages into small balls - about 1.5 cm in diameter and added those to the pan. Grated 5 purple carrots while i was waiting for my balls to cook. Cut the leaves from the stems (green bits from the white) from the chard, and cut both up finely. Threw the carrots in the pan, and then add the white bits of the chard, then the green after a few mins each. Added a can of chopped tomatoes as i thought the whole thing was a bit dry Chucked a packet of uncle bens microwave rice in, mixed well, and left to simmer for about 15 minutes. Turned out like: My brother and sister in law got me a Christmas cook book while I was visiting, as they knew that baking was therapeutic for me, my other half took me to tesco today, so I thought id get the ingredience for gingerbread men and make some of them too. Thus pudding: How to make: Sieve 375g of plain flour, 2 tsp ground cinnamon, 3 tsp ground ginger and 1.5 tsp of ground cloves into a pot and mix together Beat 225g of unsalted butter until soft, and use an electric whisk to mix in 300g of brown sugar Add 1 medium egg and beat some more add 50g of black treacle and beat some more! slowly add the flour mix into the brown mix, and fold together with a spoon. Toss spoon aside and kneed with hands til it's a dough My mix was a little dry as I couldnt be bothered to scrape the butter off the mixer, so i added 2 tsp of golden syrup to the mix. Flour bench, stick ball on, flour on top of ball, and roll to about the thickness of a pound coin Use cutters to make people etc Bake at 180 degrees for about 7-10 mins. I established 8-9 minutes was best for me Leave to cool. These ones are a more traditional spice based one, but are very lovely. The mix made about 7 large people and about 30-35 kids *insert joke here*
