Lotus Frag Festival 2

Recommended Posts

So last year we had a little competition to see who could make the most entertaining source engine movie (so this can be TF2, L4D2, DotA etc). It could be epic because of a single legendary 30 second play, or because it is lots of epic plays because thats how you roll...or just something really funny you caught when you were recording...either way we want to see it and we want to vote on it.

This is my effort from last year...just how I did it....looks like lots of work but to be honest it was about an hours worth of recording because I am ace (it was actually about a weeks worth of recording over 4 sessions because I miss a lot xD).

Any way...there will be prizes worth winning, and it is a fun competition so start working on your videos now. Closing date will probably be around the end of Febuary. I just wanted to give you aheads up to get started thinking about it. Shoutout to JB, without our drunken conversation this would never have happened in 2014 smile.png

From last year it was clear that its not necessarily about the best game skill or the ability to edit a video...so don't be afraid to have a go.

Specifics/Rules

- You record you playing, create a video of it and share it with us, after a certain time people can vote for their favorite videos.
- Videos should don't need to be any longer than 5 Minutes but that is up to you
- Videos have to be out of source engine based games and the majority of footage taken on Lotus servers, unless you're making a DotA 2 video
- Every second in the video must be you playing.
- This is about fun, but you should be able to prove you playing if it's not obvious.

How do I create Videos Out of tf2?
Either Record yourself playing, or if you don't like big video files and lower fps while playing, Record a demo and rewatch and Record important scenes.

I have no idea how to Cut Videos/edit them. Can you do it for me?
I could basicly do it, but what would be the point.
If you want to take part and have really no idea about video editing, I can help you on steam Chat.

How should we Share the Videos?
I don't mind, youtube is probably the easiest way for others to watch your video, so why not use it. 5 Minutes on 720p Took me maybe 15-20 Minutes to Upload and I have Bad Upload Speed.
If you have no YoutubeGoogle+ Account and don't want to create one, send me your video file and I can Upload it on my Channel. No Worries, I have no subscribers. (:c)

If you have any questions post here, if you want my help on creating your video, you know where you find me on Steam.

Might be time to look up the rules from the first one...I'll do that and update the OP...essentially it should be you against real people...think that was the gist of it.

OP updated.  Its a vote competition, so not necessarily about the best TF2 player, as stated in the OP.  Should be a good laugh though...everyone will no doubt have their own take on a video.

Just a heads up but this is not open to just Lotus people....feel free to tell your friends...the majority of footage should be taken on Lotus servers.

Damn, all my frag clip demos were deleted when I reinstalled Windows without backing them up. Oh well, they weren't on Lotus servers :(

well. im a professional frag movie critic and i want to tell you some things that are wrong about your frag movie.

bad things:

1. going for the taunting engy before the scout

2. missing the demopan standing still.. twice..

3. your spray lacks boobs or butt

4. machina usage

5. ur frag movie was very long and didnt feature any airshots

good things:

1. you killed a mini sentry not only once, but 3(!!!) times (in 1 clip(!!!))

2. you are good with scissors and cutting paper

3. you predicted that a spy was a spy

4. you click on people quite correctly

5. you started a clip with 3 building kills as demoman

happy to help, good luck in the next lotus frag fest

on a serious note tho, the movie was nicely made and fun to watch :)

That's FunnyBunny999 who is a regular on EC Badwater 24/7 and almost always guaranteed mini sentry engy.

I use OBS, free, fantastic, easy to use, and no frame drops :D (not as much as an issue on my new computer, but a pretty big one on my crappy laptop.)

I use a free trial version of Sony Vegas Pro. Very easy to use.

No rush with the videos...I'll give you a few months to work on things...I know the magic doesn't happen overnight and video editing is new to some. It's easy to do though so you should give it a shot. I filmed about 4 one hour sessions, then noted how long I'd been recording when something good happened. Then using Sony Vegas Pro I spent 45 minutes cutting the good bits out, pasting them back together again and overlaying a sound track. I'd never done anything like this before so it's easy to pick up.

I use P-Rec, that way I don't have to watch foreverly long demos to see if I got a kill because it logs the killstreaks. Quite nice as you can skip to the part where you get a nice killstreak instead of watching the entire thing :P

And yeah, I'm using the free-trial of Sony Vegas Pro as well. Just got to finish up w/ the footage and than I'll be started on the editing part.

It's 4:35am and today I already learnt something. I had no idea prec could do that's...now, if only I could get me some of those sweet sweet killstreaks.

Here's a quick rundown on basic setup.

The cvar prec_min_killstreak is how many kills you need to get for it to log it. Default is 4, I use 3.

In non-tournament games, use prec_record to manually start recording.

Let's say you get this badass airshot? Use prec_bookmark to also log that.

Everything is logged to Killstreaks.txt in the /tf folder.

You need to close it manually. It opens when you opened it while recording, but since you don't press the button that starts the taunt it doesn't close. So you need to do close it as if you were ingame.

Didn't really know this was a thing

I'll for sure add this little frag streak into it for sure though:

"majority of footage taken on Lotus servers"...I would tend to be more lenient with someone who has done a lot for Lotus like yourself.

Still taking vids? I got an all Lotus Server vid for ya right here

You can submit as many as you like providing they follow the few rules in the OP.

*UPDATE*

Updated the OP to edit specific references to only TF2 as any source engine game can be used

Dotabuff have added a personality test to identify what type of player you are...seems accurate for me anyway...and I was honest for once:

      The Humble Support

Your sacrificial and selfless nature propels your fellow teammates to their maximum potential. If only they could make the most out of your martyrdom then you would win every Dota game. Every last hit your team misses hurts like a thousand pinpricks preventing you from achieving true glory.

Lets face it - you’re kind of meta. While everyone else is focused solely on the farm in front of them you are thinking ahead and anticipating future opportunities. Your ability to multitask and perceived map awareness let you keep your team in the loop. Sometimes you even like to tell then what abilities they SHOULD have used in the last team fight.
