Yeah, I suppose it's a good thing given what has happened with TF2. I sometimes wonder if DotA is becoming Valve Hat Simulator 2.

That's pretty much their cs:go system, just one more major per year.

Katowice (something) in spring, cologne (gamescom) in summer and stockholm (dreamhack) in Fall/Winter (Atleast since they first started cs:go majors in 2013.)

It's a good system imo, interested to see how it goes in dota2.

Already has, was thinking that last year. How many sets are there per hero? Plus big events where you can get more sets or items.

Not to mention, it used to drop more items after each game.

Maybe if they get it right for DotA they then can easily use a similar structure for TF2.  Its the only way I can see it happening unfortunately.  They're not very likely to create something completely new/different for a game with a much smaller player base.

Well this is the same system as CSGO, from what I know, when I used to follow the comp scene over there.

Officially endorsed by valve, or whatever they are doing, if it is paying for parts of the tournament, should mean a actually better tournament. There are currently a shit ton of tournaments, more than in CSGO, what I see happening is Valve sponsoring certain tournaments, increasing production value etc. All I know is that if these majors are hosted in west europe, I will probably go

Well if there are 3 majors and TI, TI being hosted in Seatle, it would be fair if there was one major in Europe, one in China and one in SEA... but don't know if they will think in that way...

It will probably be ESL, DAC and Starladder so you could go to ESL

Euhmmm so you think that already existing tournaments will become majors? I don't think so, i think they will organise 3 new tournaments, not take over existing ones.. besides, there are multiple star ladder seasons a year, so star ladder being a major seems very unlikely. Same goes for ESL (4 this year).

They are sponsoring events run by other people....why re-invent the wheel and create new tournaments when there are already so many?

ESL, DAC and Starladder make perfect sense as they are spring, fall and winter (not in that order though)....Ti is in Summer.

Answering the calls for a change in the competitive scene, Valve will be hosting three more major tournaments throughout the year together with The International.

In my opinion this suggests that they will make up new tournaments for this thing... but you might be right... But as i mentioned before, there are several star ladders and ESL tournaments every year, so that would make it either more then 4, or they would have to chose from the several tournaments...

From what I have read, the "change in the competitive scene" is mostly rules on the management of team rosters to stop teams constantly changing their lineups at the end of every major competition.  On the other (more cynical) hand, if Valve did come up with brand new tournaments alongside Ti then it wouldn't surprise me as they have a track record of not supporting their communities endeavours.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the dust settles. It was clear (to me at least) that it's getting stupidly difficult to get tickets for Ti, looking past the obvious difficulties of just getting to Seattle, for a lot of people.

I was watching the Ti NA Qualifiers last night and whilst I love watching Summit/Starladder, the level of production and detail in the Ti shows is much improved. I just hope they don't start making them wear suits all the time...the presenters always look uncomfortable and its like watching a bank manager present the show.

Well although i think that the production value of the TI is pretty high, and i would love to have more tournaments of the same level, i do hope that they will keep TI itself as by far the most significant tournament... The pressure and hype created by that tournament is incredible.

I think you have nothing to worry about there.

I was a bit dubious about the point in taking 25 or so casters and YT dota celebrities to Romania to cover the qualifiers but so far its been excellent.

To be honest i couldn't care for North America at all, and i lost faith in the china qualifiers when HGT didn't make it, but ended up watching most of the games, its already pretty high skill.... concerning the casters, i think that they got some excellent people around, and some people who are quite useless....

can't wait for europe though.
