+CashPrizes 703 #1 Posted January 8, 2016 Hi guys, So recently, since getting the Tough Break Update, I've been getting lag spikes every 3-5 seconds. On every server I commute on; Lotus or not. I had net_graph 1 enabled to double check. My latency always bounces from ping: 80 ms to like ping: 160 ms frequently. How do I fix this issue? Up until this update, my computer could handle anything. It makes tf2 not enjoyable anymore. Asking some of my fellow brethren for help. Cause you know... I specialize in health not machinery Update: Tried typing in 'set launch options' the following -dxlevel 91 -novid. No difference.
+MrDongles 214 #2 Posted January 8, 2016 I had a similar issue a couple months back, here is my thread about it. https://forums.gamingterritory.com/topic/34745-any-help-fixing-my-tf2-stuttering/ If memory serves correct I moved into a new place during that time and it seemed to fix my stuttering. I never really pin pointed the heart of the problem. I think it boiled down to the ISP and/or the network within my apartment complex I was living in at the time... koKo_ 350 #3 Posted January 8, 2016 (edited) Honestly 70% of the time it's your router/cables/adapter that has the issues, not the game. Check your internet gear, and maybe move them around your house a bit. If you have a laptop try playing on that and see if you still have lag spikes. I had this problem while playing League, I would have 40 ms then about once every 30 seconds it would spike up to 1000 ms... I moved my wireless adapter from on top of my case to the other side of my desk, and problem solved, but that might be a unique case in terms of my router positioning and where my setup is in relation Edited January 8, 2016 by Evil_Koko
fever 9,884 #4 Posted January 8, 2016 I am no expert on fixing games or anything, but if you download a lot through peer to peer and your ISPs are kind of old fashioned they can set your connection to regularly drop packets to interrupt your downloads and generally make it harder for you to use P2P. I may be out of date with this but I heard this being discussed, admittedly a few years ago now, with regard to poor internet connections/game play.
Troll 575 #5 Posted January 8, 2016 Is it just TF2? I find the new maps a bit laggy tbh, at least on valve servers

I had the same problem a while back and in my case it was the switch, so checking the hardware is always a good idea
+CashPrizes 703 #7 Posted January 8, 2016 It's all the servers. Basically everywhere I commute it happens. I'll be calling my ISP later this afternoon. Upon a little digging I read/heard that overclocking your CPU can lead to lag spikes... or something?
Cyber Elite 15 #8 Posted January 8, 2016 I feel you man. Usually when I get lag spikes too often I'd quit playing the game, but if it's the Tough Break Contracts were talking about then I'd push myself to the limit just to get it done. Is it just TF2? I find the new maps a bit laggy tbh, at least on valve servers I'm having the same issue here except for the new Payload map that was added.
