Mana 3,867 #51 Posted August 29, 2008 Yes if you keep on getting killed by a person with a very bad rank (getting dominated would be even worse) your skill will drop. Our ranking algorithm has been slightly altered compared to others who use PS and I will not say which actions give the most points or which give the least. If I did say all of that then people would simply do what gives the most points and that would mess stats up. Some action can give you as many points as 5 kills would this can also be reversed. silvio 0 #52 Posted August 29, 2008 I dont feel like im accomplishing much if im playing with no friends on and dont have stats to keep track of stuff and for me its not so much rank even though I do like to stay in the top 100 if I can but its all the stats it keeps record of like fried rice was saying. Also K:D seems to always be pretty accurate cause like mana said logs are always kept so you know its going to be accurate for the most part and I think anyone thats not an avid medic player should have at least 1.00.I started playing the game on lotus servers so I have still be trying to make up for my learning curve when I started (soldier and pyro zerging lol). Jengo 0 #54 Posted August 30, 2008 If this was when the stats were broken. Ignore it. They are working OK now.If it still happens, don't play on the losing team. Here is an example of what I am talking about. Just so you know I am not just seeing things, lol. On my stats page it shows a session for yesterday which doesn't make a whole lot of sense. In this session, I got 140 kills, 60 deaths. That in itself is a KDR of 2.33 (higher than my average). Not only that, but 60 of those kills were headshots (roughly 43% according to the stats page). However, my skill level dropped 92 points for that session. Why? I took a screenshot of the page just in case it happens to mess up or fall off by the time you see this post. But you should still be able to view it by viewing my stats page. The session I am talking about is on 8/29 and between 16:54 and 19:00 on 2fort. I played as a soldier and as a sniper in that session. This was on the 2fort central server. I very rarely play any other server.
Nket 16 #55 Posted August 30, 2008 aye, yesterday for all day i was a killing machine. i must have averaged a 7-1 KD for the whole day, yet i dropped 5 ranks

If you get killed by multiple times by someone with a lower skill you will drop skill yourself. Same if your team keeps on losing.
Jengo 0 #57 Posted August 30, 2008 If you get killed by multiple times by someone with a lower skill you will drop skill yourself. Same if your team keeps on losing. So how the rest of my team does (which I don't really have control over) affects my individual skill level? How does that work? I'm not able to just switch teams. I understand about getting killed by someone with a lower skill level multiple times. But the team thing doesn't make a lot of sense. Especially when you can very easily get autobalanced to the losing team. Oh well, thanks. Edit: Why would it affect my skill more than how I actually do individually? Being on the winning/losing team will only affect your skill slightly. Being killed by people with no skill repeatedly will drop your skill.

Ok well that must have been what happened then. I do have another question though. What do the bonus points represent? Its right under the activity level bar. Jengo 0 #62 Posted September 2, 2008 I wish people would just read the thread before posting. Most of your questions are already answered. Oh really? Mind telling me which post explains bonus points? Hmm, none?
Pavement 0 #63 Posted September 2, 2008 I'm fairly sure bonus points are points awarded for doing things like capping points/intel, defending points, destroying buildings, etc. I have no basis on which to make that assumption, but I do it anyways. If I'm right, then they play some part in calculating your skill rating beyond your KDR.
Jengo 0 #64 Posted September 2, 2008 That would be my guess too. But I was looking for some sort of confirmation on it.
Jengo 0 #66 Posted September 3, 2008 Of course, none of that matters when the stats are all messed up again. They haven't updated for anyone since yesterday afternoon. And the rankings aren't in order either. Hard to trust that it is reflecting anything accurately when they keep failing.

Rydawg 14 #68 Posted September 3, 2008 You can tell when i play sniper pretty much a whole night... my rank goes up quite a bit been playing Medic alot lately and think its hurting my stats! I dont usually get many assists even when im medic ( less I got someone that knows how to play Heavy) cause usually im finding people that need a heal!
Mr Pain 0 #69 Posted September 3, 2008 I think u get bonus points for healing, i think bonus points are all the points u receive that are not kills or assists, assists do appear in the stats.
Jengo 0 #70 Posted September 3, 2008 They don't update every day... calm down, princess. According to Mana they are supposed to update every hour. Edit: Make that 2 hours. They are updating fine now every 2 hours. (Meaning it will take 2 hour intervals to fully update every all stats from all our TF2 servers) Regardless. I doubt I will be playing on the Lotus servers anymore anyway.
BobRoss 0 #71 Posted September 3, 2008 I was just looking at the stats trying to figure them out a bit...and I noticed I'm like second on assists, even though my KDR is below 1 (I always play medic)...I then noticed that none of the people in the top 10 rank had many deaths as medic relative to other classes...made me feel better about what I said before about how playing certain classes makes skill/rank hard to earn... Anyway I don't really care about that part, but I have two suggestions on how the stats could be more useful for certain things: a) have a way to search/rank players based on stats with specific classes. So if I wanted to look for the best Demo players, it could show me a list of the demo players with the best stats. This would help to identify good support class players as well...especially if you consider suggestion b. Customize stats so they are specific for each class...not all classes are good at getting high K:D ratios, but it seems that that is the most important stat for skill/rank...in fact, some classes, if they have a high K:D ratio, may indicate that the person is playing the class wrong (i.e. Snipers can easily get a high K:D ratio because they never die unless the opponent has good spies/snipers...but kills per minute actually determine if they're helpful to the team or not.) For medic, heal points/death or assists/death, losing points for patients backstabbed, gaining points for patients saved from falling, or burning, things like that could be counted in the skill/rank For Engy healed points by dispenser, sg life, amount of buildings built per life, teleports used by other players...all that stuff. For pyro.. kills/assists may be almost equal, lots of times pyros add value to the team just by hurting the enemies and forcing them to run into someone else's sights, regardless of whether they actually get the kill...pyros can also hurt their team by setting players on fire when the player can easily retreat to safety and be healed by a medic...this helps to charge the medic's uber, which ultimately hurts the team. For scouts it may be something simple like, amount of time spent alive, assists, kills, amount of bullets dodged (not sure you can track that...but it really is one of the great ways a scout helps the team, drawing fire/distracting the opposing team). For spies, deaths may not count as bad (since they happen all the time for stupid reasons that aren't the spy's fault, like a friendly scout running up behind you while cloaked which gets you shot with a rocket), but may count double if they're caused by ubersaw...since that hurts the whole team. Maybe similar to a sniper, kills + saps/ minute should count more than K:D. These types of stats may make it difficult to compare classes to eachother, so it may be hard for me to say, "I'm a better at medic than you are at spy"...but that kind of comparison doesn't really make sense anyway...but it could give good rankings of classes based on what makes them useful. Like I said, rankings like these could help to identify the best players of each class, recruit them, and get them to wear the L. This is all just a suggestion...the reason I don't care about stats right now is that they are not relevant to me at all as a medic...these kinds of suggestions may make me pay attention a bit more. Or not...probably depends on how well I do too .

Pavement 0 #75 Posted September 3, 2008 w/e, if you complain about free services, you're not likely to get much sympathy from me. Mana works hard to keep everything running smooth and doesn't need to be hassled every time it doesn't update on the 2 hour mark. If he finds that due reason to leave, then he's free to leave.
