Not sure if this is the place to make a request for this...

But I would like to see a 9 on 9 server with a more competitive feel.

Maybe hold weekly tournies and invite pubbies that we thought were fun to play with?

I'd be willing to donate more every month if we had something like this.

Also, class limits!

2 medics

2 demo men

3 anything else

MAX

Would anyone else like to see something like this?

i agree on the limit but i would like it if there was no limit on medic.

Medic limit is the most important one.

agreed. Hell a really intense server would have a 1 medic limit. In these cases ubers actually have the power to turn the tides of games.

ideally, it wouldn't be used as a pubbie server.

Hold weekly tournaments with invites and clan members, etc.

I reckon the prac server would do just fine, but can non-clan members play there during non-practice times?

Edit: I'd be willing to put together tournaments and organize teams.

We would ahve to change the password each time, but scrims are something we are not really concerned about at the moment.

I say nay, because we have the practice server going already. people dont like to pub low pop servers because they cant get into giant wars on low pop servers, and when they cant play the class they want they will just leave, Im sorry.

Yes!! let's make one already!

I say make it pub, the noobs will leave when they are tired of dying.

Call it like:

LotusClan.com | pl_map cp_map ctf_map | Competitive | 18 Slot

Hopefully "Competitive" would deter noobs.

also it would need a good map rotation, an agreed upon one. (maybe the top few maps in the favorite maps vote thread)

Like I said, I'm willing to pay for an 18 slot server if the price isn't TOO high..

I really want to see if anyone here would be interested. Having the Lotus tag will get it some attention automatically, and putting competitive in the tag should draw the right crowd.

@Nket, we don't want the people who only play 1 class and just spam.

I want to play against people willing to adapt to the other teams strategies and strengths. Random pubbies are not an issue.

Say you're in one of the 32 slot servers and you meet a really good pyro who is also a very good scout and medic. You could give him the server info and invite him to play in a mini tournament that weekend or something.

The idea is to build a small community of competitive teams and play the REAL TF2.

Most playing will still be done on 32 slot servers... but hopefully once or twice a week we can hold several scrims of REAL gameplay.

This will be especially beneficial to players who cannot make the Thursday practices... Give them a chance to scrim with L, L-r and randoms who have been invited.

Too bad that's not how it works, at all. You are getting ahead of yourself. All this pent up ambition is phail waiting to hit the fan.

you have no evidence to back up your claim.

It's at least worth a try.

It's at least worth a try.

It will fail if people don't play on it everyday for hours, and even then it will be hard to maintain.

I've been running servers since I was 11, there is a common trend in all Valve games when it comes to maxplayers. The only way people won't join the biggest servers is if they actually can't play on them. Which can be easily noticed on a 64 player CSS server but not so much in TF2 where the maxplayers are lower. (And Valve knew that so they added the custom tab which then failed horribly).

There is also another trend... The retarded server browser. Sorts by similarity in your IP and server IP, so if the server right next to you starts with IP 200. and your IP starts with 80. you will first get European servers and then very last will be servers actually close to you :/

Both can be overcome with enough activity, but it will harder in either case.

The thing is, I don't expect it to be played on every day, all day.

We have plenty of servers that are pretty much always full... Why is it a concern that this one always be full as well?

Its not meant to be a server that you hop on at any time of day and expect a competitive game.

Its meant to be played on 2-3 days of the week with pre-registered teams.

Maybe have a registration section on the forums where you have to have a vouch from a L or L-r to play if you aren't in the clan.

I can work out specifics of how I would like to run it if you want, I'm just pitching random ideas atm.

Additionally, once we have Team Mana, Team A, and Team B established, it would be nice to be able to scrim not only each other but other teams who have registered.

hence the practice server, We invite other clans into the practice server to scrim with, Or we simply use the practice server for the reasons you have been pitching, invite pubs to it or other clans to it for competitive play!

Also, like I said, practice server will do just fine if it is allowed.

Someone said it would be a problem because the pw would need to be switched each time.

I'm not demanding a new server... I would just like a server where we have the opportunity to play real TF2 other than practice nights.

Of course I could just go find some random 9v9 server and hope good people play... but I'd like to stick to Lotus servers, and have some hand in organization of events.

I kinda like the idea...just a quick question for you all...

Is it possible to set it to a limit of 9 players per team, but have it show up with the max number of slots, where the other players would be forced to spec and join teams only as players leave? (sort of how it works in arena-except they join instantly instead of waiting for the end of the round). I'm kinda fond of this idea, just because I get so annoyed by people who are constantly spec/switching to the winning team (causing other players to be autoswitched, and reshuffling the teams mid-game)...this way, when a player leaves, someone who's been watching could automatically be subbed in (i.e. no team switches).

Not sure if all of that is possible with TF2...and then there's the problem Mana already mentioned, of people choosing bigger servers.

The reason why I said nay is that I would only want to play with Lotus people. The thing is that 9v9 requires much more teamwork from everyone, not just half the team.

I wouldn't mind if maybe someone were to organize an "unofficial" practice. Maybe set a time and if enough lotus people get on, than play some 9v9 matches.

I am not suggesting we have additional practices for the reasons mana has mentioned sometime ago. But, I would like to see maybe a 10pm playing time and if you can make it, just log into the 9v9 practice server and have some good competitive fun. If not enough people make it, not biggie. Just play a different game

Everyone knows the password, you could do 9v9 in-lotus if you wanted, or even less if you still want to play low-pop. And also, we can have these ideas and we can have plans, but we simply do not have the resources or the functionality to make any of this come to life. We have to build from the bottom up, but what you are proposing is something that will happen in the future and you can't expect these things right now. A lot will change once everything gets rolling at full speed. The reason everything is so slow is that Mana has to split his time between the constant maintaining of the servers and improving everything. If you can talk to mana and somehow lift the load off his back then by all means do it, but when you logically look at what is available to us at this moment, talking in such a way like this is just going to dig our own graves and make us impatient.

alright, how about an unoffical Lotus Clan scrim on the practice servers next weekend?

I'd say 6v6 is more realistic if we aren't included anyone outside of Lotus.

Maybe have a sign-up thread, and if there's enough interest and we can agree on some dates/times?

I just realized that like 10 people read these forums and even with 100% signups, we couldn't have 2 teams.
