Technically, a strand of human DNA has 3 billion different nucleotides; which many be any of the 4 different types. In theory, there are 4 to the power of 3 billion possibilities. However, you wouldn't be human simply for having that many nucleotides, so by refining the search to something a little more "human" we can say the strand has 20,000-25,000 different genes in the genome. Each gene has wide variety of possible alleles... although the number is unknown and each gene has a different number of possible alleles. eg. Hair gene would have alleles to generate a color, texture, thickness, etc. As far as I know, nobody knows the exact number of possibilities... things could have changed since I took biology in university. I do know that if you only consider which alleles dominate, you cut the number significantly. (Since you receive alleles from both parents, some are dominant, some are co-dominant and some are recessive.) What that would mean is that you could have 2 identical people with the exact same features, but would pass on potentially very different genes to their children. Anyhow, even if that number somehow came up <4.8billion possibilities, after considering environmental mutations, its pretty well safe to say that there will never be 2 identical people apart from identical twins (which I BELIEVE share DNA?) And as for the demon, I wanted mana to add it as a static model, but he hasn't gottena round to it yet. Off topic: 3000000000 x 4P4(4p4= 24)=72000000000 so that's 72 billion possibilities per gene ~22000 genes total so: 184000000000000 I guess thats roughly 184 trillion, there are obviously mane genes that coud be the same so you could probably say a lot less than 100 trillion.
