Pavement 0 #4 Posted September 3, 2008 Played with it today. Very neat browser if you don't want any bells or whistles. Doesn't work on Linux yet :C Favorite features were being able to split tabs into new windows (although it places them in an awkward position after being split :C) and being able to monitor processes within each tab and end them as you see fit. Once this is available on Linux and with a NoScript-esque add-on, I will convert.

Alucard winrar 0 #9 Posted September 3, 2008 Most of these things can be done on Firefox. But it does seem a lot sleeker/cleaner so I think I'll give it a shot. And that incognito mode might as well be called 'porn surfing mode'.
LunchBox 10 #10 Posted September 3, 2008 Some interesting reading on Chrome and what people are saying about it- http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/09/03/go...ome_eula_sucks/ http://www.drama20show.com/2008/09/02/the-...dity-continues/
coda 1 #11 Posted September 3, 2008 i've started using it- and i must say it does *seem* faster. i don't really know. maybe it just has that feeling because it's so sleek
Oww My Nose 19 #12 Posted September 4, 2008 it's just like putting flames on a car. scientifically proven to make the car go faster
Pavement 0 #13 Posted September 4, 2008 Some interesting reading on Chrome and what people are saying about it-http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/09/03/go...ome_eula_sucks/ http://www.drama20show.com/2008/09/02/the-...dity-continues/ read the on the register this morning... EULAs are retarded. The iPod EULA restricts you from using iTunes to create weapons of mass destruction... DANG IT! A CHINK IN MY PLANS FOR WORLD DOMINATION! EULAs generally don't stand up in court, btw. drama20show's article was just a rant about a poorly written review of Chrome and isn't relevant to the actual browser in any form. Either way, the author gets burnt in the comments where people tell him exactly why the review, while poorly written, at least grasps the concept of where computers and cloud computing are going. As far as actual speed of the browser... The multi-process structure allows the browser to take advantage of multi-core CPUs. Something traditional browsers don't really do. This alone accounts for a significant speed increase, assuming you have the hardware to take advantage. That bit aside, Chrome will run sites with JavaScript multiple times faster than other browsers. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-10030888-92.html Just an example. http://www.rybazoom.com/browsermips/ There's also this non-scientific test that checks browser capabilities. This one is really only for fun, but Chrome is trouncing the other browsers in how fast it is with this test. With all the browser benchmarking I've seen, Chrome comes a full 2.5x ahead of Firefox 3.0 and much much faster than IE7. Its advantage is that it was built from the ground up with the web 2.0 in mind.
Oww My Nose 19 #14 Posted September 4, 2008 about 3x faster for me (technically, 2.7x faster, but i'm rounding up) Using firefox 3.0: 5919 Using chrome: 16226

Pavement 0 #18 Posted September 4, 2008 well, A - all browsers have several security flaws and B - its in its first WEEK of beta phase... C - its based off of Apple's WebKit, so any flaws in Webkit will exist in Chrome atm. This is exactly WHY they released it. People love to pry away at apps and see what makes them break. That info is reported to Google and they make changes. Welcome to early beta phase! Give it 3 months or so and it will be a fairly stable release with several add-ons to make it customizable. silvio 0 #19 Posted September 4, 2008 well after you pointed out gmail is still in beta I can only imagine how long they will consider this in beta. That post of mine was just pointing out that it can be pretty malicious so just watch out. Also heard something about their disclaimer says something about they can retain your credit card info and keep it on record. Pavement 0 #20 Posted September 4, 2008 well after you pointed out gmail is still in beta I can only imagine how long they will consider this in beta. That post of mine was just pointing out that it can be pretty malicious so just watch out. Also heard something about their disclaimer says something about they can retain your credit card info and keep it on record. The EULA is very confusing if you don't get what Chrome is built to do. It states they can use any information input into the browser. However, the only part of the browser that provides info to Google is the search/address bar. They have said openly that they are keeping 2% of searches made for research purposes. I'm sure they will rephrase it in the EULA now because of the big stink people have made over it, but people have been going over the source code with a fine tooth comb and so far, the only thing people have found that sends info to Google's servers is exactly what they said we would find. If you did a search for your credit card number, they could potentially keep it on file I guess... although only for research purposes. They're an ad company. Their goal is market research. Did you use gmail when it first came out? I had several major issues with it, as did everybody else. Google does keep all their apps in beta phase forever, but only because they don't want to officially release anything less than perfect. They make vast improvements, and their late beta phase products are miles ahead of full releases of similar products. I'm not saying being a beta will excuse it for life, but it excuses it in the first months of release
silvio 0 #21 Posted September 4, 2008 I dont know why I am knocking it before I try it but I have never liked google as they have been one of the biggest companies to make a ton of money off of other peoples copyrighted material,I mean they own youtube... but im just jealous I didnt think of it first.I think I will give it a shot today but after trying grand paradiso in beta I am kind of turned off to beta browsers. Pavement 0 #22 Posted September 4, 2008 hehe Google is one of the few good guys out there. People just pry and pry at everything they do in hopes of debunking their "do no evil" policy.
friedrice 8 #23 Posted September 4, 2008 I'm using Chrome right now. Still have some issues, but I'm willing to bet that once the final version comes out, it will be better than firefox. Too bad the logo is dumb looking
Camail 1 #24 Posted September 4, 2008 Without goggle email would still be shit-tastic. And I like chrome, Honestly I never browse any sties that I haven't browsed for a year now, so unlike all you porn-addicts I won't have to worry about malicious links. Even in beta I like it better than firefox because I never used FF to its potential anyway.
friedrice 8 #25 Posted September 5, 2008 So unlike all you porn-addicts I won't have to worry about malicious links. Ya, cause in Canada they only allow gay porn. Move here to the states and you'll see what the good stuff really is
