+Henry Spencer 117 #1 Posted March 4, 2009 Anyone here musically inclined? As in, play an instrument, compose music, etc.? Also, what kind of music do you listen to?
Plasma Waffle 0 #2 Posted March 4, 2009 I play guitar and write my own songs with my band. We play metalcore & deathcore, which I'm sure most people here don't like.
+Henry Spencer 117 #3 Posted March 4, 2009 Never actually listened to any, tbh. If you were willing to link to your band, I'd give it a listen. I play a variety of things. I listen to Classic Rock and Classical.
Plasma Waffle 0 #4 Posted March 5, 2009 Cool man, I like classic rock too. We have a myspace page and I have 2 recorded songs in .wav format, I can't find a working free converter to convert it to .mp3 to put it up
+Henry Spencer 117 #5 Posted March 5, 2009 I looked... there are some free trials you could use. Another option is to find a really good converter, then look for it on torrent site. Chances are, if it's really good and they charge a decent amount for it, you'll find people that want it. Just make sure to scan it for worms and keyloggers. Just remembered... I have a playlist on my Myspace page. 1. Hip to Be Square - Huey Louis and the News 2. Montagues and Capulets - Sergei Prokofiev 3. Life Support - Rent OBC 4. Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp Minor "Quasi una fantasia" - Ludwig van Beethoven (3rd movement of the Moonlight Sonata, for those without a musical background) 5. Story of My Life - Social Distortion 6. Concerto No. 3 in F, RV 293 'Autumn' - III: Allegro - Antonio Vivaldi (3rd movement of "Autumn", from the Four Seasons) 7. The Camera Eye - Rush 8. Last Train Home - Pat Metheny Group 9. You Are What You Is - Frank Zappa 10. Train 1 - Philip Glass Yeah, did I mention I like musicals?
kuttlewug 28 #7 Posted March 5, 2009 I play piano but I'm not really good at it yet but I enjoy it. My friend kayla tell me I could learn and be good at guitar but I doubt it. I listen to almost anything.

Nket 16 #9 Posted March 5, 2009 runescape just happened to be the only video that has that song on it, flawlessly. I have never played runescape, and my only memories of it are idiots at LANs eating up all the fucking bandwidth with it
+Henry Spencer 117 #10 Posted March 5, 2009 I played RuneScape up until they decided to go 3D. I played the 3D realm once, realized the game was going to suck donkey dick, then ditched it.

+Henry Spencer 117 #16 Posted March 6, 2009 It's great to see people play guitar, but I meant "instruments" in the orchestra sense. Ex. Violin, viola, cello, bass, harp, piano, brass, woodwinds (saxophone isn't really an orchestra instrument, but I'd say it takes a fair amount of skill to play), percussion. Note what all these have in common... they take more than half a brain and 3 working fingers to play. Also, I'll have none of this TROLLAN in my thread. How is guitar an orchestral instrument?? Has more strings than a cello, bass, or violin. I can play a little classical guitar, but I prefer to play heavy electric distorted metal shit. My uncle is a flamenco guitarist, I plan on getting lesson eventually, but he is far away. I played baritone saxophone in my high school regular and jazz bands. Won a few outstanding musicianship awards or something at a few jazz contests, but I was never really into it. Have you never seen a guitarist play with an orchestra before? Yngwie? Metallica (not a huge fan but they did it!)? Petrucci? Michael Romeo? I'm pretty sure Jason Becker's version of Paginini's 5th Caprice will still make your jaw drop even when done on guitar (I think it sounds better than the violin). All instrument can be played with half a brain and three fingers. It just takes more to master it. Also Limp Bizkit is the best raptal ever.

Compare the number of original pieces composed for orchestra featuring a guitar to the number with violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, english horn, trumpet, French horn, baritone, euphonium, trombone, tuba, and percussion, such as timpani. You'll see what I'm getting at. Not saying the guitar CAN'T be used in a classical setting, just saying it's not very common at all. Plus, a lot of pieces that DO feature it are contemporary. String count doesn't matter. You have 6 strings... violin, viola, cello, and bass not only have no frets, but also use a bow. There's a huge difference there. ^ Some of the best use of bow technique out there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT1n-woNg6o ^ Some of the most emotional playing. I give examples because guitar, even though I can sound nice, cannot do things like this. Also, I played a viola arrangement of the second piece; faster, and sounds less strained than on cello, but it's still not true to the original, no matter how awesome it sounds.
