Custom Map

So I've found that once I got to know the hammer editor better its not too difficult to understand. That and looking at a ton of videos and tutorials. But anyway I want to make a ctf map because I'm not all that fond of any of the ctf maps. I'm not really sure what it will look like but I could use some peoples input and give me some ideas. And we're talking balanced maps here thats what Valve made these maps for is balance, so no I'm not going to make a huge courtyard that will only have snipers on the map. Or lots of tunnels and tight spaces that demomen will constantly sticky bomb spam with. Thanks for any input I'll take it all into consideration and if this first map goes well I'll make more.

Yes, totally agree with what Mana said. I wish there could be a permanently running blade somewhere that pyros could airblast people into :)

I've always wanted to see a map with a really big wall somewhere that it would be possible for a soldier to rocketjump then wall jump up onto a roof ledge, but maybe that will cause an excess of soldiers and demomen

My idea sort of map would have things that cater to every class: Scout-friendly paths (like over the bridge on 2fort) that could easily result in a lot of damage/death if hit by a Natascha heavy; rocket/pipe jump areas suited for soldiers and demos; environmental hazards for pyros and scouts to shoot people into; enclosed areas that a heavy could defend/attack with ease; plenty of good places for engineers to build guns; some longer, more open areas for snipers, and many different possible paths for the spy to take, for flanking and such.

If you could somehow combine all of that into a map and make it balanced, I would play the hell out ot it.

Well I'm going to try and do that but it will probably take me awhile to make this thing so don't expect it next week or anything.

Indeed, don't make it like goldrush 3 or dustbowl 3, which are so focused on a single route (with a single, easilly watched secondary route) that they're basicly anti-spy maps.

How about just remaking Rock from TFC? The map featured a unique design, with the ability to sneak into the enemy base through use of a det pack by the demo. Although you'll have to find away around that since the demo no longer has that ability.

But most of all, you could hit a button that filled the base with deadly gas. If players didn't get to a suit or safe room in time, they died. It was awesome, as it caused mass panic and caused snipers/campers to move from their spot. As a former TFC player, this was by far one of my favorite maps.

Or you could remake the TFC version of Well :P

On a side note, i've been messing around with Hammer too, but it runs crappy on my computer. I think my hard drive is going to crash soon, it keeps getting louder and louder every day.

I'm sure it's possible to make a map that has a destructable wall. I remember playing one right after I got the Kritzkrieg, a few days after the Medic update hit. It was a custom map, and I can't remember the name of it, but it had a tunnel that could be destroyed to reach either side's 4th point.

Warpath has that ability.

I hate warpath with a passion. How come that isn't on that stock maps server? Might be fun to play with 32 people

I'm just guessing here, but it's probably something to do with the fact that this is not a stock map and the server is called stock maps server.
