boywonder03 2 #1 Posted May 9, 2009 I went and saw Star Trek this weekend without reading any reviews or even looking up the rotten tomatoes score, which I do almost ever time I see a movie, and I was very surprised by how good it was. The special effects were really awesome. My girlfriend even liked it! Now I'm not a Trekkie or anything so I wanted to know what other people thought of it. So what'd you think? FunkyFresh 68 #2 Posted May 9, 2009 While it's sad poor Gene Roddenberry didn't get to see how popular and fruitful his dream has become - I'm with Ebert's review. "The Gene Roddenberry years, when stories might play with questions of science, ideals or philosophy, have been replaced by stories reduced to loud and colorful action." Miyari 33 #3 Posted May 9, 2009 I think I won't be seeing it.

You suck and have no life 203 #5 Posted May 10, 2009 there was a scene where Spock was in a pod answering math and physics problems supposedly showing how advanced his race was. One of the questions was: "what is the volume of a sphere" the answer 4/3 pi * radius cubed. Is that really a hard question? I'm unimpressed. this movie is clearly geared towards the stupid mass although I enjoyed it when bypassing all the scientific inconsistencies.
FunkyFresh 68 #6 Posted May 10, 2009 I've learned to ignore that kind of shit. It's in nearly any movie that has any computers/science in it.
Krash 1,040 #7 Posted May 11, 2009 I most likely wont see it, i am waiting for Stargate: Universe next fall!

Ya that’s true but most people don't go to the movies to see proper math and science. They just go to see something cool and enjoy a good story line baste on a show people like. Going to see this movie either tomorrow or Saturday. I'm not a Trekkie by any stretch of imagination, so I'm at least hoping it'll be entertaining. Rydawg 14 #14 Posted May 12, 2009 I've prob watched a half dozen tv shows of Trek. I liked the movie a lot
JonasV 9 #15 Posted May 12, 2009 I liked Star Trek a lot more when I was younger, but Voyager is still OK. As for the movie, it didn't disappoint me in the slightest like the new Star Wars, so I will have to say it was good. I like that they were able to move in an entirely new direction instead of rehashing like most prequels typically do.
Mana 3,867 #16 Posted May 12, 2009 So years ago a game came out based on the Quake 3 engine (I made it a priority to play Q3 engine shooters at that time). You shot/vaporized/otherwise killed aliens of all sizes. It was fun. That was my introduction to Star Trek. Now imagine the horror when I saw the TV show.. Little to no guns from the game, no vaporizing aliens every few secs, barely any shooting and worst of all LOTS of talking. The horror! With that said... I hear this movie is supposed to have more action. Though I'm not going to see it, not right now anyway. EDIT: The game also allowed you to skip the talking sequences. lightbeats 0 #18 Posted May 21, 2009 I was quite impressed with the new Star Trek movie, I did feel it wasn't as "epic" as it could of been, although i'm probably just trying to compare it to the Star Wars movies in my head too much. It's one of those movies that after you've watched once, you don't feel as though it needs to be done again, which is a shame, however I was never a fan of the original tv series so I probably missed a lot of "zomgstory!" moments. Also, all I could think during the whore film was that "O, thats Syler from Heroes!"

Mana 3,867 #20 Posted May 22, 2009 ..,;~~=|<STAR WARZ>|=~~;,.. I attempted to watch this "star wars" when it was on TV some time ago. BORING. Didn't finish it. Then EP3 came out and I watched it because it leaked in DVD quality... meh better than the one I saw where they spent 321987458327598234759823757 hours in the desert talking to homosexual robots for fucks sake.
