Start A Custom Server

This is a vote to add a Custom Maps Server. We had one of these in the Recruits Section. That one stands in at 8 Y, 5 N.

Edit: Mana has spoken. We need a volunteer to make the server popular. Until then, poll closed.

Personally I don't see how having a Custom server would be a bad idea. It adds variety, and draws in a more diverse crowd.

Wouldn't be possible to take one of the already running servers and make it the custom server? There are a few servers that that don't have as high a player count on average as the rest.

Also to counter your point on people joining Henry, why not try it for a week or two and see? The result may be surprising.

Most of the people that pay for donator benefits play on Stock 1, which also usually has a line of non-donators. It would be of little financial benefit for Mana to make a Custom Server.

I'd say I'd be very interested but it really depends on what maps are chosen.

Random suggestion, if such a server is made, map makers can pay in a donator-type fashion to host their maps on the custom server for X-amount of time. If the map is liked by everyone, it stays in the rotation. I would love to have an outlet to test my maps, and would be willing to pay for community testing.

We had multiple custom map servers go up in the past. No one wanted to play on them and they all failed.

I won't bother trying to get yet another custom server popular. So if I am to put another server up... some people will have to get the server popular (or offer themselves up for castration to benefit the Church Of Mana). But if the server fails yet again, Nket will be able to perform aforementioned sacrifice (He knows his way around a penis).

So... who's up for it? The stakes are high this time.

ALL the maps on the Lotus servers are coming to the point of pure bordom. What will one do when hes tired of screwing around making teleporters into spawn areas of regular maps? Find a different server

I dont see how anyone could vote now on this. Mana wouldn't be using the stock server or a server most people play on, so I'm not really seeing how anyone could vote no or ven say they wont play. I'd rather pay for a custom server than to get shitty stats

Hence why Valve releases only two maps at a time. I think a custom server takes care, but you can't have maps like Mario kart and Orange Box. There's plenty of 24/7 insta spawn servers with those maps. The custom server needs to draw in a different crowd of people who like the official maps but want a different map every once in awhile.

I'll play on it. Also, it doesn't have to be 100% customs - popular severs that run customs such as the 2f2f servers still hit stock maps, and donators playing on it would allow map votes to come up often enough. As it stands now, we rarely ever play Stock's normal rotation order and I'd like to think that people might rather something going to, say, pl_dbheights (the really good Dustbowl payload) or pl_frontier (holy fuck Lil Chew Chew) instead of Badwater for the 10th time in a day.

Also, Mana, this forum software actually has a 'mobile' mode for use on a phone - awsm.

No one's come forth, so nothing yet, Funky. There's enough interest, though. And if the Custom server becomes a reality and still has Stock maps on it, I might just join, send it to something like Grush or Dbowl and leave. lols

Put Grush,bwater,steel, dbowl,granary + 5 custom and it will be the only place i play. Stock #1 only goes outside those maps during non prime hours ( aka noone likes useless maps like hoodoo or hydro or badlands more than once a year)
