SNAITF 0 #51 Posted September 14, 2009 If they do a guided rocket, i don't think that you would have to stand still, because: It would cause the soldier to turn into a sniper-like class, and it could ruin the solder's use on the front lines. I know from playing hl2dm that i can strafe and fire a guided rocket, but it seems like the guided rocket would be the ultimate noob gun. wire guided rockets though I'd rather see something along the line of either: higher damage with lower splash(and no knockback) or thermobaric (catches things on fire, more knockback) with the appropriate loss in other departments, being range, accuracy, reload time, magazine size, etc if you look at the types of round that are made for RPGs today they are either fragmentation, High Explosive Anti Tank or thermobaric. Kaname 0 #52 Posted September 14, 2009 If the soldier gets a thermobaric weapon, then surely that will be along the same lines as a pyro's flare gun? Higher damage with less splash would be the preferable out of those two - in my opinion
Melissia 7 #53 Posted September 19, 2009 May be excessive though. I posted something like this earlier: Same damage Much larger area of effect (twice the size of the sphere?) More Knockback Higher rocket traveling speed (equivalent with the huntsman in speed) One round clip (reload after each shot) Does not crit normally (will crit with kritzkrieg) It's a large change, but keeps within the Soldier's role. +Henry Spencer 117 #54 Posted September 19, 2009 I dunno if I really wanna give the Solly only 1 shot to use, considering a rocket already can't even kill 125 HP classes in one shot. I think if you're gonna get rid of having 3 reserve rockets, it should definitely be able to crit. With a huge AoE, that would be a real plus to using it. The one rocket would keep it from being spammed at choke points. Idk, it would be a very interesting defensive choice. Hmm, perhaps give him 2 rockets, but the firing speed is 50% slower? Melissia 7 #55 Posted September 19, 2009 It would also be potentially too powerful though, with smart and good soldiers able to take on entire teams because of this. Two rockets before reloading is a good compromise, unsure about the firing speed change.
kuttlewug 28 #56 Posted September 19, 2009 More damage and greater splash area at the sacrifice of less ammo carried is a good trade off I think. Any player can play soldier and do damage by just aiming in the general direction of the enemy(but these are useless soldiers who aim blindly) and you're bound to get a hit/splash damage. Only thing about making the rockets more powerful and/or crit more often is that it can't be too powerful. Good rocket jumping is key to any good soldier. It would be useless if you jumped to where you want to be but because of increased damage you're now half dead or just plain dead because you got a crit. Crits only cause more damage to enemies i think, they cause regular damage to you when rocket jumping.

I have no idea I thought if you crit rocket jump you'd be dead. Oh another thought I think crit rockets should make you go higher and farther than normal rockets and crits are random so there is no unfair advantage. Melissia 7 #59 Posted September 20, 2009 You can crit rocket jump. You may not survive the landing, but you can do it. It launches you nice and fire.
kuttlewug 28 #60 Posted September 20, 2009 Hmm I didn't know that. Now I'm sure I will on purpose get a crit medic to use the crit on me just so I can test this
Melissia 7 #61 Posted September 20, 2009 You can also crit sticky jump, too. The distance you can travel with that is amazing.
